How often do you dream about your true self? 🦭
Not often do i dream of being a seal, as most of the time my dreams take place in my human form where I’m doing human things
Yet last night I dreamed that I found my sealskin, ran away from my land life, and went to the nearest river
The river was fast and dangerous, yet as I stood upon the rocks near an eddy, I was approached by a water spirit. She swam beneath the water, and looked like a young girl with long curly bright red hair and wore old clothing that was tattered and worn
When she surfaced from the water, she asked me if I was here to join the river. And knowing what she was, I told her “not exactly” and that I was actually here to return to the sea as this river leads to the ocean. She looked confused and asked: “Why do you want to go to the sea? It’s full of sharks and the river is much better.” And so I told her that “My true home is the sea, and so I must return for I am a selkie.”
The water spirt understood and offered me her hand. “Dive in and you’ll be free again. The current will guide you home.” Yet I was hesitant to take her hand, as I was worried I’d drown in the deep cold water. She sensed my fear and told me “not to worry. You are one of us.”
Then I saw another being approaching me in the water - a young boy with dark hair, pale skin, and the lower body of a silver fish. He inquired what was taking place, and the girl explained that I was a selkie returning to the sea. He was excited and said for me to travel with him as he was on his way to the ocean as well.
Feeling less alone, I put on my sealskin, get into the water, and dive in, and transform into a seal. Navigating the current becomes easy, and I’m able to find my way through the murky water with ease with my whiskers and echolocation.
The dream carries on for quite some time, and I wake up before I get to the sea, yet it was so interesting to be a seal navigating the river. I even got to eat a trout! 🐟
I drew a water fae today and made a video on it! Water fae have fascinating origins. Originally they were meant to serve as warnings for children not to go near deep water. For example, the legendary Kelpies in Scotland were said to lure and drag children underwater. In England, there was the legend Jenny Greenteeth, a river hag who would pull either the elderly or young children into the water. There are several others, like the Slavic Rusalka, the Kappa in Japanese mythology, or Australia's Bunyip. They are all likely to have been an inventions to frighten children from dangerous waters, and the fairytale format made it easier for children to digest.

Here is Morrow and his father and mother. I really like drawing their designs, I have more ideas for their clothing and accessories, but can't quite draw what I'm visualizing yet.
