Freckles: Five Facts About MeansweredClavicle:Tea or coffee?TEAHonesty: Three things you like about tumblr, three things you dislike about tumblr? (without offending anybody!)I like how pretty much everyone from every fandom is on tumblr, and all of the amazing artists on here! I also like how creative the people are on here.I don’t like the extreme sjw, and how hard it is to get recognized. If you’re not a popular artist, it’s hard to get noticed.
Lavender: Describe your perfect day? It’s rainy and cold, I’m curled up in my bed with a warm cup of cocoa or tea and watching a show. I just showered, so I feel clean and fresh. I’m cuddling with my girlfriend. I was very productive that day and got a lot of writing and drawing done.((That’s my ideal perfect day. If I were to go to the perfect day ever it would to be told that I could live with my mom 24/7 instead of splitting the week between her and my dad, people give me money so I can actually do things and get my friends stuff for their birthdays, and me and my girlfriend make out and ride off into the sunset on a dragon.))
Tree of Life: If you could go back in time and change something in your life, what would you change and why?To be honest I don’t want to change anything. I think things happen for a reason, and even the horrible things have made me a better person. Plus, I’m too scared to mess with time travel and I don’t want to screw things up, haha.
This is for the post on "Hetalia Asks": 1, 2, 6, 9, 11, 12, 22, 29, 31, 38, 45, 46, 49. I posted it, too, so you can ask me questions.
Sorry for not replying for so long! I really do appreciate the ask, though!
And I apologize, this is gonna be quite long… I recommend you don’t read this if you don’t like Hetalia…
13 questions total, most of them with answers that have more info than asked for I’m afraid.
1: What got you into Hetalia?
Well, we were learning about the Spanish-American War in US History class in 11th grade, so I took a homework break and randomly searched for it online. I also vaguely remembered a friend of mine mentioning Hetalia the year before, so I ended up putting the two together and, without actually knowing anything about the series, I found this fanfiction called Nations These Days by AFreezingFlame, which is now being reposted with permission by verfens. It was amazing and made me want to dive in. So, I looked up the web comic first and just fell in love with it! The anime was ok, but the manga! I actually haven’t finished watching the anime yet (still somewhere in the first World Series Season) but I’m pretty much up to date with the manga!
2: What month and year did you first start watching it?
I guess some time in October or November? Definitely in 2010.
6: How has Hetalia affected history for you?
It affected me a lot for the entirety of US History, and a little when I was in Civics for 12th grade (especially because of the satirical fanfiction Partisanship which was very close to being finished before it was dropped), but I separate the characters from real-world countries now because this year in college was, to say the least, “enlightening.” Needless to say, I prefer that Hetalia and history are separate now.
9: Do any of your [outside of Tumblr] friends like Hetalia?
Not to the level that I do. That I know of, at least.
11: Which Hetalia-related merchandise (official and unofficial) do you own?
Used to have a rubber England phone strap that I lost and continue to mourn for… apparently it was rare too :(. I own the official dub version of Hetalia: Paint It White! DVD. I still have an America button! I never wear it because the pin is very cheap and it falls off too often. As for fan-made stuff, I recently bought phone charms from etsy and two keychains from rockets! (the two keychains deal is unfortunately out)
12: Do you read any fanfics and if so, what’s your favourite one?
I have a bad habit of reading fanfiction. I mostly read USUK but I never disregard other pairings (well, I can’t bring myself to like FRUK but it’s not the pairing, it was that time France tried to force England to marry him that blew it. People find it funny; I found it really absurd) I don’t really have a favorite because new ones come in and I gush about them! I will list a few titles and authors though.
As I mentioned before, both Nations These Days and Partisanship are very well written, and especially good for people who are fans of America since it’s America centric and has no pairings (and canonverse is a plus!). I also loved An Eternal American by CakuRamen and World Conference: An American Perspective by Streamingwords, both of these also America-centic and wonderful, but they update sporadically. Still, worth well worth a read.
A few non-usuk recs (or at least not the main pairing): On The Bound, a franada fic, Snakeskins, pottertalia gen fic, Behind the Mask (very long, updates sporadically, but I love England-centric and the drama and the everything), the HetaOni stories by Sunruner (actually, I liked a lot of Sunruner’s stories),
The following artists are already known to rock at USUK/USUK fanfics (in no particular order because I like randomness):
hoshiko2kokoro, butterfish, justa-fangirl, IggyCat, Zeplerfer, EverythingIsMagic/Haro, TechnoRanma, teaandcharcoalforbreakfast, simplytrop, Teenage Mouse, americalovesthecockpit (for those who can handle crack), fakiagirl, RobinRocks, General Kitty Cat, Car, Galythia, Orange Plum, Hellie Ace, Ahro, Trumpet Geek, symbiotific, George deValier, worldaccordingtofangirls, Liete, ArixaBell, stardropdream, jedishampoo, PennyLane, Miaou Jones, simplytrop, Zo One, Last Haven, Gosangoku, sweet ayako15, SonataAllegro, Semebay, Ellarose C, PhantomMemories, Tsuki the Wolf, Mithrigil, Puella Nerdii, White Mizerable, Gecko Osco, lumaluma, cgal120, Galythia, December Camie (well it technically wasn’t USUK but I’m a sucker for cardverse anyhow and they made others), and a whole lot more artists I’m sure that I can’t remember off the top of my head (chances are you might have read some of these and never checked the name of the author. The more you know!)
As you can see, I am insane for fanfiction.
22: Thoughts on HetaOni? Have you played it?
I love HetaOni! It was a real thriller and it made things really shocking for those who’ve played Ao Oni (since the ending obviously isn’t gonna be the same as the original game). The characters were pretty spot on and no one except “Steve” is the villain. It’s too bad the creator of HetaOni got caught up in the aftermath of the Japan Tsunamis. I understand why she had to take a break. I really recommend other game-type stories! Hetaquest is my ultimate favorite! If you try it, I’m sure you’ll love it too! I’d also like to recommend the other Sotetag-subbed ones, RomaHeta and HetaHazard. I do admit to skipping the fight scenes though… I’d much rather play them than watch them.
29: Do you cosplay any of the characters from Hetalia?
Nope, I never cosplayed before. I don’t think cosplay suits me to be honest. I love seeing other people cosplay though!
31: Look at the country you are currently living in. If they are an official Hetalia character, how do you feel about that character, as well as the country itself?
Obviously, I have a great love for America the character! And America the land is beautiful. Politics are dirty pretty much in any country, but we could be doing WAY worse. That doesn’t mean I’m happy with every decision, some things really need to change. I’m glad that as we grow in generation, America as a whole is losing its close-mindedness and becoming way more accepting, but hatred breeds more hatred. Overall though, I wouldn’t want to live in any other country but here! Or any other state. I could do with a move to another part of California, though, if I had the money…
38: How much has Hetalia taken over your life?
I’d say 70-80% of my life? It definitely has taken a great deal of it, but education and family and friends come first.
45: Will you ever leave the Hetalia fandom?
Probably. I’ve left fandoms before when the series closed, it went on hiatus for over 5 years, or the plot was becoming way too drawn out. Himaruya seems to be leaving Hetalia very slowly, and I’d understand why. I mean he started it as mostly a gag, and the popularity grew. I’d say Hetalia might have become his safety net of sorts? I mean, it is where most of his fans seem to be. Plus, I want to live beyond fandoms one day, but no worries! That time has not yet come B|. Even if I leave, Hetalia will always have a part of my heart, I think.
46: Are you glad that you started watching Hetalia?
I’m definitely glad to have started Hetalia! I especially love the Beautiful World, and the original Axis Powers seasons as well!
49: What is the thing in general that you absolutely love about Hetalia?
It’s about countries, but at the same time it’s not. I think Himaruya rarely shows them at war because that’s not what the message is. Like, there’s so much he could have done with WWII or the Cold War, but mostly they were gags and stuff about their uniforms and stuff about their rations and inventions. Also, any actual fighting has been comically reduced to slapping someone on the head, or maybe throwing punches. Never has a gun been shot at a country for the intention of harming them, even though some of them do carry guns (notably America). I mean, Russia’s choice of weaponry is a pipe and China;s is a wok… Japan has a sword but he never actually hits anyone really. Even though we know that Joan d’Arc dies, she comes back as someone else and sees France again. Davie may have died, but he obviously had a very good life with kids and even grand-kids.
I think it’s an underlying message of peace and how we’re all human in the end, no matter where we come from, we’re the same species, we feel the same types of emotions, and war is just something we get dragged in to because we’re human. But, that maybe taking it too seriously. Hetalia was meant as a gag comic, based on real history and real stereotypes without actually being too mean. (Well I’d argue sometimes it is a bit mean, but- )
And that’s all folks! Sorry for the long post, I love to ramble on my writing! (I’ll never be a good fanfic writer, lol) Thanks for taking the time to read it!
