Everything online tells me that I should crack a coconut open with a hammer but for your consideration: drop that thang on the floor.
Scheduling emails really is saving my anxiety-riddled ass big time
iceskatingmobsters replied to your post “hello, I am always willing to feed yr ego bc yr writing is gr9. 13,...”
“EVERYONE” what a mood. tbh tho it’s not a bad answer bc all these weirdos are so... complex — esp. bc they were around in what I personally see as a hypermasculine time period and have WEIRD fuckin relationships w the concept of emotions in general so I am in awe of what you do w them constantly,,, do you find it easier to write them through the lens of an au?
AGAIN, FLATTERY /o\ but yeah neither of them have a great relationship with their own emotions, i don't think, like charlie is more emotionally expressive but that doesn't mean it's understanding, or even healthy expression, and after the ride he holds back on a lot more of the expression than when he's younger too? they have layers of survival instinct and trauma to fight through, on top of very intense expectations of early 20thc working class masculinity in particular, and i honestly don't think either of them see pushing through all that as a worthwhile exercise—from their perspectives, who does doing that kind of introspective work benefit, really? they're fundamentally selfish people, and when their emotional issues cause them problems it's one thing, but more often than not it's SOMEONE ELSE who has a problem with it, since they've both been living with themselves their whole lives and have figured out coping strategies, AND it also never really gets to either of them about each other, relationship-wise, because they Know Each Other Well Enough that it doesn't even register as a problem the way it does to, say, gay or anna.
as for if an au's easier, i dunno, honestly? I love to read aus but i think i'm bad at writing them, especially the further they get away from canon [so like daemon au isn't THAT far from canon, but pacrim au is Very far since at least daemon au is in the same time and space]. there are things about aus that i struggle with that aren't necessarily related to characterization or their emotional shit that make aus a lot less likely to ever get written from me, mostly that i feel like i have to have most—if not all—of the aspects of an au world figured out before i even start writing it, which shoots a lot of plans in the face before they start? but also. i think in most aus they're only slightly more in touch with their emotions and ~*inner lives*~ than in canon, like masculinity and trauma aside i don't think either of them are naturally introspective people, which means writing them in any situation involves, like... doing the introspective work FOR them and then figuring out how to write them so that YOU know what's going on internally, and hopefully the READER knows what's going on internally, but the characters maybe don't know? and I DUNNO, there is something about "they're ridiculously dedicated to each other and despite being violent and not-nice guys they have zero interest in hurting each other, but there's no need to get sentimental about that OUT LOUD WHERE SOMEONE COULD HEAR IT" that's part of what draws me to the ship in the first place? i LIKE that they're bad at feelings. just because they don't clock what's going on with their own shit until very late in the game or maybe never, doesn't mean WE don't know they're stupidly in love, y'know?
why couldn’t flynn just go back in time to when rittenhouse was a kid and kill him then?
I just wish I could change everything about myself but I don't know how and I don't know where to start and even when I try I can never make it last
