Update on my Korean after not updating for so long
First of all, I want to apologize for my inactivity. Some of you who have me on snapchat and kakaotalk know that I’m still alive and well, just a little busy with life in general! I do have awesome news for you though and hopefully it’ll motivate all of you to keep studying, practicing and keep getting closer to fluency!
So! As some of you may know, I’ve been learning Korean for over 3 year now, right? I made this tumblr in order to learn more, but also to help and communicate with other people who share the same passion as me. I haven’t studied Korean in a very long time, but I got SO much better and I want to share this with all of you and give you some tips that might help you as well!
Stop saying that you CAN’T do it when you CAN!
You’re learning a language that might or might not be completely different from your first language! People are going to ask you to speak and it is embarassing, but don’t tell yourself that you can’t do it. YOU CAN! I used to block myself a lot that way, but since I stopped, I’m so much more confident in speaking and trying out new ways to formulate sentences. I even surprise myself sometimes when I use words I never knew were in my vocabulary. It becomes a lot easier guys! That goes for any language!
When watching/listening to something in your target language, try without subtitles and DO NOT discourage yourself because you don’t understand.
Most of the time, you’ll need to guess what they’re saying which is TOTALLY okay! Doing this allows you to expand your vocabulary, because you don’t focus on the subtitles but on what the person is saying. You can pick up some words that will make you understand the general meaning of the sentence and you’ll also hear a lot of words that aren’t in your vocabulary, but they will engrave themselves in your brain! I’ve been phone calling with a friend lately, and while talking to her, I found myself saying a lot of words that I had no idea I knew. Either because I never had the opportunity to use them or because I was so scared to do so. Do not be scared, languages are beautiful and it is only when you’re going to be at ease with the fact that you ARE learning a language and that you DO speak it that you’ll see results in a short time.
Once again, I’m really sorry for my inactivity, but in a way, not studying Korean and trying to include it in my daily thinking (I think A LOT) made it a lot easier for me to believe that I can speak it well! Don’t give up guys, fluency is a beautiful thing~
