1. Describe your project idea. What will it look like, sound like, feel like? : My project idea is a series of photographs which show humans in “odd” situations, and parallels created by air pollution. The idea is to cause a level of mental discomfort that puts the audiences everyday actions into perspective. Visual it could consist of a wide range of scenarios such as a baby choking on exhaust from a car pipe, or a Husky dog slowly melting due to heat.
2. What materials & media do you propose to use?: The Primary media would be digital photography, and editing software. The images could live online, but i can also see them existing physically as prints.
3. How does your project propose a CREATIVE SOLUTION to the climate crisis in Miami? I think my project proposes a creative solution to the climate crisis because there’s a possibility that it can reduce greenhouse gases through the raising of awareness. Miami is a interesting city in that while there are pockets of wildlife, and natural areas we are for the most part and urban city that continues to develop more, and more. I believe this project could open up the publics eyes to the negative aspects of some of that development.
4. Describe the target audience. Who are they (age, race, gender, ethnicity, sexuality, income level etc)? What do they care about? Be specific. “Everyone” is not a target audience. My target audience are those between the age of about 17 to 45. One of the issues in dealign with climate change is that people fail to perceive its long term effects, and disregard that the issue will effect those who come after in far worse ways.
5. How do you want the proposed project to impact your audience? I want my proposed project to impact audiences by bringing them to terms with the idea that climate change is much bigger then them. That even tho right now it seems like just a little more heat, or slightly smaller bodies of water eventually it will become a nightmare. This being true for today for the viewing audience, and in the future for their offsprings.
6. How does the proposed project connect to the lessons, exercises and texts we have experienced in class? Be specific and refer to at least one of the artists from our textbook. I think the biggest connection to previous text, and lessons from the class is that i intend for the project to connect on a personal level. My biggest influence from the class so far has been the artist collective HeHe who’s Pollstream’s captivate the audience through imagery, and visuals that create a polarizing thought or experience.
7. Why is the exploration of this topic important or relevant to Nancy Grimm’s lecture? This particular topic is relevant because Nancy Grimm’s goal was to help the ecosystem by using the resources she was able to acquire. She wanted people to be aware of issues in specifics areas, or specific issues for each area, and wanted the people of the area to be able to find a solution or make a plan to turn the tide, and prevent a bleak future.
8. How does your proposed project utilize additional research and data in order to avoid generalizations, clichés, and stereotypes about your subject matter? So i think the biggest method of me avoiding cliches, and generalizations is to make sure my images are captivating, and don’t fall into the Ruin Porn area. The images wouldn’t be the usual “look at this falling tree, lets feel bad about it” type of image. Searching up those types of images, and then comparing there to somewhat abstract types of work would be a great way to deliver the message effectively.
9. How is the proposed project influenced by your previous knowledge & experience? My proposed project was influenced by previous experiences because i typically work in photography. So it wouldn’t be the hardest thing in the world to do from a technical standpoint.
10. How will you measure your success for this project? I will measure the success of my project by the impact that my images have on the audience. I believe the overall of shock factor of the images would be the biggest documentation of success, or general impact, and could contribute to an increase in idea generation towards air pollution, and climate change issues.
