They requested friends-to-lovers college roommates au where Dean and Cas have been besties forever but only after they become roommates at college and only after Dean nervously invites Cas to go with him to the campus LGBTQ+ group's party does Cas learn Dean is bi and Dean learns Cas is nonbinary
.........................
Dean can do this. If he managed to get a perfect score in his latest exam of modern theory of detection and estimation, he can definitely ask Cas to go with him to the campus LGBTQ+ group’s party tonight.
He and Cas have been best friends for over three years, they are now even living together as college roommates. But despite having an amazing relationship, Dean has never told Cas that he is bisexual. He had suspected it since he was in his teens, but he had been in denial due to too many homophobic comments from his father. But then, Dean developed feelings for his best friend Cas and he couldn’t be in denial anymore. Still, he has never told Cas because he doesn’t want to confess his unrequited feelings.
Dean has been in love with Cas for almost two years. In that time, he has become more comfortable with identifying himself as bisexual, but he is still afraid of saying out loud. The world can be a scary place if you don’t fit the pattern that society imposes you. He knows that Cas won’t judge him, the guy is really accepting and open-minded, but Dean doesn’t want to accidentally tell him that he loves him.
Sometimes Dean thinks that Cas might feel something about him, but Dean is always so buried in his own insecurities that every time he thinks there is something in between them, he thinks that his mind is playing tricks on him.
Dean shakes his head, trying to put his nerves and anxiety aside and he walks towards Cas, who is in the couch, book in one hand and a mug with that awful tea he likes in another.
“Cas,” Dean simply says, still feeling like his legs are going to collapse any minute now.
“Yes?” Castiel says, lifting his beautiful blue eyes from the page to focus all of his attention on Dean.
“Do you have plans tonight?”
“Not that I’m aware of,” he answers with a smirk. “But I’m suspecting by this conversation that you have a plan for us.”
Dean nods. He rubs his sweaty hands on his jeans and he tries to steady his restless heart. “There’s a party tonight.”
Castiel gives him a look of disbelief. “I don’t like parties. Too many loud noises and too many drunk people.”
“It’s not a frat party,” Dean quickly intervenes. “It’s actually a—” He clears his throat and avoids Cas’ confused stare. He feels how his cheeks start to redden and how he can hear his heartbeat clearer than his words. “It’s the campus LGBTQ+ group’s party.” Once again, he rubs his sweaty hands and dares to look at Cas, whose expression is now one of interest. “I— I really wanna go, but I— I would like it if you came with me. If that’s okay.”
“I can come with you,” Castiel says with a big smile.
“Oh. Good, good, that’s— that’s good.” He relaxes his shoulders, feeling part of the tension leaving his body. “Thanks, Cas.”
Cas is about to say something, but Dean quickly speaks first.
“I’m gonna take a shower and then we’ll head out, okay? Unless you need to take a shower too.”
“I’m good, Dean. I’ll wait for you.”
“Good. Good. Yeah. Good.”

The environment in the party is nicer that Dean expected, and to Cas’ relief, the music isn’t too loud and people aren’t drunk. Despite the niceness of the people and the place, Dean still feels on edge, because he knows that Cas is wondering why Dean wanted to come here. Most people who come to LGBTQ+ group parties are because they are either LGBTQ+ or they have a relationship or friendship with someone who is LGBTQ+.
There is a moment when Dean tells Cas that he is going to the bathroom, but in reality, he goes out, desperately needing some air. He looks at the night sky, feeling nervous. He can tell Cas his secret; he is his best friend and the most supportive person Dean has ever known. It shouldn’t be so hard.
“You do realize that the bathroom was in the opposite direction of the exit, right?” Castiel says.
Dean turns around, startled, and finds Cas looking at him with a worried look.
“Not really,” Dean answers after a beat.
Castiel walks the distance in between them and places his hand on Dean’s shoulder. Suddenly Dean feels slightly relieved, but he also feels like he is about to be set on fire.
“Are you alright, Dean?” Castiel asks, looking at Dean with that typical intense gaze of his, and with so much worry that it makes Dean’s chest hurt in a good way. Cas cares a lot about him. Dean doesn’t know what he did to deserve it, but he is so grateful.
He can definitely tell him.
“I’m bi,” Dean confesses. He looks at Cas’ face, waiting for his expression to turn into shock, but it doesn’t happen.
“Okay,” Castiel says. “Thank you for telling me,” he adds, with a beautiful smile.
“Why aren’t you shocked? Did you know?”
Castiel frowns. “I didn’t know. And why should I be shocked? It’s a really normal thing to be bi.”
Dean can’t help letting out a relieved sigh, feeling his anxiety disappear. “I could kiss you right now.”
“Please, do.”
They both stare at each other in shock.
“Did you mean it?” Dean asks, cautiously.
“Did you?” Castiel asks, hopefully.
“Yes.”
“Me, too.”
Once again, Dean lets out a relieved sigh. He starts to approach Cas, intending on kissing him, but Cas stops him.
“I think you should know something about me first,” Castiel says a bit nervously. “You have been kind enough to tell me that you are bisexual. I’m demisexual and non-binary. I hope that’s okay with you.”
Castiel actually blushes after his confession, and Dean finds it adorable.
“Thanks for telling me,” Dean says with a big smile.
“You aren’t shocked?” Castiel asks, teasingly.
“No. It’s a normal thing to be demi and non-binary.”
Castiel grins. “I could kiss you right now.”
“Please, do.”
Without wasting any more time, they finally kiss, happily and relieved. Dean is going to be so thankful for coming to this party, and he suspects that Cas will be too.
