Description:

They met when Lizzie was studying to be a nurse in Edinburgh, he’d been studying criminology & policing at the very same university and the two of them hit it off instantly. It wasn’t long before they were an item and Ben seemed to fit in perfectly with Lizzie’s family, becoming fast friends with her cousin, who was already a police officer. The pair of them moved down to London after Lizzie graduated to be closer to Ben’s family for a spell, already seeing a future together, him taking up a post at Scotland Yard alongside Liz’s cousin who at some point made a move south too.

A few years pass, and a happy little accident happens and Ben and Lizzie welcome a daughter, Isobel Evans, into the world. But it only takes a few weeks more for tragedy to strike. While Liz is still off on maternity leave, Ben is involved in an incident that places him in the line of fire while on the job, escaping injury or worse only after intervention from Lizzie’s cousin who wasn’t so lucky himself. The entire affair leaves Lizzie with misplaced guilt, feeling as though her cousin only took such drastic actions, only got hurt, because of Ben being Lizzie’s boyfriend... the couple only last a few months more before Liz breaks up with him. She’s never blamed him for it. Only ever herself.

Little does Lizzie know Ben was on the take and had been tangled up with the very criminals that injured her cousin, the guilt she feels already over the entire incident eats her up enough but she still tries her best to co-parent with Ben. She grew up without her father in the picture. She doesn’t want the same for baby Issy.
