Gyu-kaku Restaurant @ the Fort
Gyu-kaku is an international restaurant brand deemed to be the No.1 Japanese BBQ Grill.
What amazed me the most is that there was this weird looking charcoal called Sodas. It's like covered with a powdery substance. See the picture below:
Let me start of with their specialty <3
I don't know if I might come off as biased here but I just love Wagyu.
We ordered the Wagyu Karubi which means Wagyu Oyster Blade. You can choose from different marinades:
We got the Tare and it was just perfect for the beef because it contrasted the taste of beef and followed by the right amount of sweet marinade. I usually cook the beef or ask it to be medium rare. For some people who doesn't want it bloody, I don't recommend Tare marinade.
The sauce for the beef was also unique: Sesame Sauce and The Spicy Soy Sauce. The sauces are full of flavor and was just refreshing to have condiments that aren't bought from a grocery store.
But my absolute favorite is the Karubi Kuppa. I am a fan of unique and oriental looking food so even if this wasn't part of the waiter's recommendations I ordered it. It was a beef broth with a variety of seasoning , vegetable and rice. I KNOW! It's sounds weird but it's like Japanese Risotto but it doesn't have a congee texture because the rice is literally placed in the middle of the beef broth with the vegetable on the sides. You have to mix it together and after a while the rice completely absorbs the beef broth.
We ordered some other grilled specialty which is the Sausage & Bacon. The sausages had bits of cheeses inside and the bacon was extremely thick. This was a bit ordinary for me and I'd still prefer the crispy bacon bought in the grocery store.
Lastly, we ordered Ishiyaki Bibimbap which is one of their best sellers in the rice toppings list. I am very meticulous with Bibimbap because we had already tasted the best bibimbap at Adriatico, Malate. We had even compared it with dozens of Korean restaurants but nothing can compare. But then again, they aren't a korean restaurant in the first place. I even asked the waiter if they were a Japanese-Korean restaurant because their menu was filled with kimchi. The kimchi sauce used had this eccentric taste , but I guess it depends on the person's taste. Heads up! the usual kimchi sauce is different from the one served here.
All in all it was a good dining experience and we didn't have to wait since it was a weekday. I'll give it 3 Stars out of 5.
