the nhl needs coaches that will do what needs to be done and prioritize the human lives under their stewardship over the cup. they need to be willing to be the firm, rational voice that says ‘you are hurt, you can’t play through this. i’m benching you. this is not up for discussion.’ until we have that, people in leadership who can and will take players out of games when they’re capital-H Hurt, we will continue to see the mess we see now and have always seen with players pushing through things they shouldn’t and sustaining even more severe damage in the process.
