I'm here for Jon approaching Rickon the same as he has everyone else. Earning his respect rather than expecting it. Over time, through actions and tolerance in the face of Rickon's traumatised childish anger. Admiring Rickon for who he is and not fixating on who he isn't anymore. Jon being a Good Brother. Rickon gradually coming to trust in and love Jon. Jon going from the stranger he was told was his brother by Ramsay fucking Bolton to a man he *knows* in his heart is his brother. Here for it.
first of all, give me a second to pick up the pieces of the heart you just shamelessly shattered.
now.
assuming a show element here, Rickon will remind Jon of Olly, in a few things. both of them are still half-children, at the end of the day, and they both have seen/ lived through some really nasty things. and the time Jon has spent at Mance’s camp, and with Ygritte especially, taught him much about checking his own privilege and having a more open mind. whilst Donal Noye/ Tyrion Lannister/ Benjen Stark / maester Aemon taught him a whole big deal about empathy and walking in someone else’s shoes.
so, of course he’s going to be frustrated at times. of course he’s gonna yell at Rickon and (try to) ground him and remind him that this is his family and that he’s not living amongst a heap of rocks anymore — no offense to Skagos because Skagos is A+. mainly because he loves Rickon as much as he did back in the day, and he wants him to grow up to be a proper man.
but he’ll understand.
he’ll understand why Rickon is the way he is now, and that his tantrums and actions are just his own defenses up and his own coping mechanisms. and he’ll try to work around them, and to help him understand that he can do it differently now. that he’s safe now. in a manner similar to what he did with Sansa.
