1, 2, 28, 38.

1. “Duet” from the Flash or “Mayheim of the Music Meister” from Batman the Brave and the Bold?

Definitely the Brave and the Bold version. The CW version is so disappointing. The plot was very thin, most of the songs were just covers (the one original one was okay), and the actors’ talents were wasted. What bothered me the most was how it was trying way too hard to not come off as too campy or fantastical. They set up very convoluted reasons as to why characters are singing (where in BatB, it was simple), there were barely any songs, and Music Meister didn’t even wear his iconic suit! This was their change to go all out and be fun, but they squandered it. 

The Brave and the Bold episode was a lot of simple fun, yet you could tell they put a lot of work into it. No BS reasons to justify the characters signing, full of songs from beginning to end, and it used the show’s tone to its full potential. 

2. Do you like the arrowverse? If so what’s your favorite show?

For the most part! While some of its flaws have become more apparent as time goes on, they still got the ball running on getting more live action adaptations of superhero shows. I should give credit to Smallville, but there wasn’t as much effort as there was after Arrow’s success. 

As far as my favorite show, it depends on the season, but mostly The Flash. It’s the most consistent out of the shows and has the most balanced tone…even if season three was a bummer to get through. The best show out of the current season, however, is surprisingly Legends of Tomorrow. I was iffy on the premise and the first season was pretty weak. However, this second season fixed a lot of its flaws. The dead weights that were the Hawks and Vandal Savage were gone. They actually did interesting things with Rip Hunter and allowed Sara Lance to shine as the leader. The character interactions were fun and the campiness of their adventures worked. Finally, it was a wise choice to have Reverse Flash, Merlyn, and Damien Darhk as the villains, as they were way more entertaining than Savage. I hope the next season is just as good. 

28. Favorite comic run?

Probably Steve Englehart’s run in Detective Comics. It had a pulpy detective feel that the Batman comics were coming back to after the 60′s campyness, had a strong use of continuity, with small subplots and foreshadowing in the background alongside the regular arcs, and a great use of villains like The Joker, Hugo Strange, Rupert Thorne, Deadshot, and Doctor Phosphorus. Cary Bates and Greg Weisman’s Captain Atom run comes a close second.

38. Who do you think is the most overlooked or underused character?

I’m a fan of obscure villains, so there’s too much to narrow down on that end. If we’re talking heroes, the world could always use more of The Question. Vic Sage or Renee Montoya, they’re either/both good with me.

The MCU does have a lot more male cheesecake and a lot less standard female fanservice than the usual Hollywood films. I think ever film has a shirtless scene of the male main character.

Yeah, Iron Man 1 &2 kinda have some... but this sorta fits with the type of character Tony Stark was at that point. Black Widow has her moments... but that’s also the kinda character archetype she is. It’s enough that I found Wanda’s Scarlet Witch outfit overly revealing in Civil War, even though it’s just a bodice and low cut top - nothing really that extreme.

Maybe I’ve become a prude in my old age. I dunno.

The Batman and Beware the Batman

Some of these might come off as more changes to the shows themselves rather than just the canon, but whatever. As always, SPOILERS for both of those shows. 

The Batman

1. Establish Commissioner Gordon and his relationship with Batman earlier. Besides a brief cameo in one of the first episodes, we don’t really see him until the second season finale, and they tell us that they’ve been allies for a long time. Except we don’t actually see this at all, so it comes off as out of nowhere. B:TAS did it right by establishing Batman and Gordon as allies (aside from the pilot), and Beware the Batman also wisely developed their relationship throughout the series.

2. Include Gordon and Ellen Yin more. Gordon was basically introduced as a vehicle to get Batgirl in, and lost his significance right after that. Yin was also forgotten about after having an arc from being against him to eventually siding with him. They were interesting characters that deserved more attention, particularly Yin, and didn’t deserve to be quickly forgotten about. 

3. Less use of the Joker and Penguin. These two are the most frequent villains seen, and also happen to be two of the worst. They weren’t entertaining, most their schemes weren’t memorable, and they were just mere nuisances compared to everything else the show had to offer. They took a lot of valuable time that could’ve been used on more interesting characters. 

4. More use of other villains. There were a lot of villains that had a lot of promise that weren’t really used to their full potential. We could’ve gotten a couple more stories of Ethan Bennett/Clayface before reforming it. Poison Ivy also could’ve been used more, particularly due to her role as Barbara’s former friend and a foil to Clayface. One-shots like Killer Moth, Spellbinder, D.A.V.E., Maxie Zeus, and others had more potential for future stories, but instead we got more pointless Joker or Penguin stories instead. The Batman Strikes!, the comic tie-in to this show, actually gave a lot of these characters new millage. They even made Gearhead interesting!

5. Diversify the Justice League. Season five featured team-ups with members of the Justice League. This should’ve been exciting, but this League was composed of nothing but white men. It was pretty much a Boys Club. I understand this was caused mostly by network mandate and focus testing, but still. Worse, except Flash and arguably Green Arrow, they all had the same, boring personality and had nothing that made them stand out. Introducing women and people of color to the team-ups would’ve improved that aspect a bit. 

6. Replace Basil Karlo with another Clayface. I was OK with Ethan reforming, but the Karlo that we got as a replacement was boring. He didn’t even do much beyond his first appearance and his small role in the Superman crossover. We should’ve gotten Preston Payne instead, who is a more unique Clayface in terms of backstory and powers, or even Sondra Fuller to boost up the female villain number. 

As for Beware the Batman, my few criticisms are fully featured in my reviews. However, I can narrow them down. 

1. Actually do something with Michael Holt. It was pretty disappointing that nothing was done with the cameo set up in the first episode. Mr. Terrific would’ve made a great guest star for the show. 

2. Fix around the interactions between Tatsu and Jason Burr. It seemed like they were setting them up to have actual chemistry between the two before Burr gets offed. It came off more like he was being pushy and kind of creepy and her being uncomfortable, which made moments when they actually bond a bit awkward. Also, I would’ve had her grief a little bit more over his fate. Not too much, but still enough to have some meaning. 

3. Make Harvey Dent a little more human. I feel weird talking about this, since we never saw the full plan and execution for Two-Face. It could’ve worked better in season two and this wouldn’t even make this list. But Dent at times felt like too much of a cartoonish character to be invested in him. He doesn’t have to be pro-Batman and he doesn’t have to be a good person, but his villainy and unpleasantness felt a little unrealistic. 

4. While we’re at, and this isn’t a flaw or anything, I would’ve done the Two-Face reveal in the final episode. I’m a greedy Two-Face fan and it would’ve been cool to see his facial scarring. It would’ve worked best after Dent turns on Anarky and starts to shoot him, particularly with his little speech before. But I do know they probably don’t have the budget to create a new model just for one episode, so it’s not a big deal. 

5. Have Bruce’s return to the cowl be more dramatic. The second part of the season had a neat little arc about Batman taking over nearly completely and Bruce being subjugated. Then, Bruce returns, but is scared of being Batman again after nearly being pushed to the edge by Killer Croc. He does return, but with little fanfare and it’s never brought up again. I would’ve had him attempt to dress as Batman, but not being able to pull it off completely and still being uncomfortable. Then, in the next episode, have him return to full glory as Batman in time to save his friend Ava. 

6. Have at least a second season.

Young Justice.

Oh boy! Like yourself, there’s not much I’d actually change since I’m happy with the overall product. I wouldn’t even change the time skip. There are some small things I’d change, though. Also, since this goes for canon overall, I’m including additional material (comic tie-in and video game). I should warn that there are SPOILERS for the entire series. 

1. Ms. Martian being so easily forgiven. I get that she had remorse over what she did to Aqualad, but I felt like she got off too easy. Maybe have her leave the team as well or something. Also, I wouldn’t even remotely hint at her getting back with Superboy. She hurt him and violated his trust big time. I would’ve preferred for them to remain friends. On that note...

2. Include the reason Ms. Martian and Lagoon Boy started dating. While the show was airing, I was confused over what those two saw in each other. The comic book tie-in revealed a few months later that they bonded over being persecuted on their homeworlds and the insecurities that came from those experiences. It was genuinely touching, made sense, and it could’ve helped the audience empathize with Lagoon Boy more. 

3. Cut or reduce the Guardian/Bumblebee romance subplot. I just didn’t find it as compelling as everything else that was going on in season two. I found Mal to be pretty whiny and didn’t get what Karen saw in him. It just wasn’t interesting and it could’ve been cut to spend time on other storylines. 

4. Increase Wally’s screentime and development. I agreed with Greg Weisman’s decision to kill off Wally and it makes more sense over Jay Garrick or Barry, like others thought or wanted. However, I do think his death felt a bit hollow to some viewers was because he was barely in this season. I would’ve added a small subplot of Nightwing recruiting him for “one last mission”. It wouldn’t be a huge plot and would just be him pondering on whether to do it or not, and eventually accepting while keeping the mission itself vague. 

5. Have Superman actually warm up to Superboy in season one. While I’m not one of those people that write off YJ Superman as a “deadbeat dad” and understand the many reasons why he came off as distant to Superboy, I do think this plotline could’ve been fleshed out better. Unlike season two, season one has plenty of space to spend more time in this storyline. Again, the comic improved it a bit. 

6. This one’s petty and greedy since I’m a Two-Face fanboy, but ACTUALLY show off Two-Face in the comic tie-in instead of just his apartment. 

7. Have a third season on Netflix. ;)

Best case scenario: they ignore it and we can pretend nothing happened.
