the music from the afterparty was loud enough to rattle mingyu's chest, but it wasn't the bass that made him restless --- it was her. he watched as gaeun laughed at something jongin had said, and felt the familiar twist in his stomach. he hated that part, the comparision he couldn't stop making. jongin was bright, effortless, the kind of person people naturally gravitated toward. and him? he was always the shadow in the corner, music still humming hin his veins from the stage, but unable that into words when it mattered most. he leaned against the wall, nursing a half warm drink, trying to steady the thoughts that kept colliding. every time he looked at gaun, she seemed to burn a little brighter, like she belonged in motion, in laughter, in the center of everything. he wondered what someone like her would ever want with someone like him. still, he couldn't shake the pull. taking a breath, mingyu pushed himself off the wall, forcing his steps toward her. when she finally turned and their eyes met, the words caught in his throat, but he managed, soft and a bit awkward: ❛ hey, you wanna get some air? it's too loud in here. ❜ it wasn't much, but it was a start.
