just saw someone comparing ekko from arcane to bear from obsession AND I AM FUCKING LIVID OH MY GOD ????????? like ARE YOU HEARING YOURSELF. BOY SAVIOUR. BEST AND MOST SENSIBLE CHARACTER ????? TO A LITERAL RAPIST ??????? i am SO done what the hell. this is so wrong on so many levels . like ,,, genuinely what is the thought process here . "they're both obsessive" ??? ekko spends his life trying to protect his people, takes responsibility when it counts , and consistently chooses justice even after everything he's been through ???/ at no point in the show did he force himself upon jinx, and even SAVED her from committing. did we watch the same show. ekko's feelings for jinx are never framed as entitlement. that's the entire point!!!!!!!!!!!! he mourns who she became, remembers who she was, and still recognises that she has agency . he tries to reach her because he believes she's worth saving ,, not because he thinks she owes him love, attention, or a relationship. even in the moments where he's desperate, his focus is on her (and the firelights') life, not on possessing her. ALSO IMPORTANT MENTION: him hugging her in the ma meillure ennemie music video and her leaning in and smiling ???? ALSO him not wanting to kiss her too soon in the alternate universe until she signalled it was okay ???? oh my god. ekko goes through SIGNIFICANTLY much more than bear, who on the other hand abuses, objectifies, and commits sexual violence against nikki . he believes his crush on a woman who views him as a brother and does not reciprocate gives him the right to violate boundaries and quite literally tortures her. his "love" is rooted in ownership, entitlement, and control; and when that becomes too much for him, he takes the "easy way out" and ODs. these are not morally comparable characters in ANYYY sense. argue with the fucking wall. comparing a character whose defining arc is sacrifice and hope to someone whose defining actions are predatory is genuinely absurd. this isn't even a "hot take." it's just a comparison that completely ignores characterisation and basic media literacy lmao. OF COURSE it is on tiktok. sorry for the rant too i just love arcane and ekko . also yes it is that deep.
