New releases we love.
Over the next few days, we’ll be offering a peek at the titles we have lined up for Spring. Martin Seay’s novel The Mirror Thief goes on sale May 10th. All of us at Melville House are ecstatic about Martin Seay’s The Mirror…
“As he crosses the threshold, Crivano can hear the Te Deum echoing from the convent of Saint Mark and Saint Andrew, two hundred yards north. A bright halfmoon lingers in the western sky; beneath it, the Campo San Donato is all but deserted. In the distance, across the wide canal, torches light the path of a procession as it leaves the new Trevisan house. By the entrance of the baptistery just ahead yawning linkboys trade taunts with a pair of rude commoners, watchmen of the Ministry of Night. Crivano raises his stick as he descends the church steps, and one of the boys puts a taper to his wrought-iron lantern. Here’s your light, dottore, the boy says.”

Salt to the Sea by Ruta Sepetys Published:2/2/2016 by Philomel Books ISBN: 9780399160301 “Titanic. Lusitania. Wilhelm Gustloff. All major maritime disasters, yet the last is virtually unknown. Ruta Sepetys changes that in her gripping historical novel. Told in short snippets, Salt to the Sea rotates between four narrators attempting to escape various tragedies in 1945 Europe. Powerful and haunting, heartbreaking and hopeful--a must read.” Jennifer Asimakopoulos, Indian Prairie Public Library, Darien, IL Black Rabbit Hall by Eve Chase Published: 2/9/2016 by G.P. Hi, I'm stuck on what to read next :(. The series I didn't enjoy was Matched and Delirium. I've finished and enjoyed reading the Angel Falls series, Harry Potter, the Divergent series, The Mortal Instruments series, the Infernal Devices series, the Hunger Games series, and all of the Percy Jackson series. Do you have any recommendations similar to these books?
Boy, do we! But here are just a few to get you started:
1. We will never stop recommending Kristen Cashore. Ever. Her wonderful series starts with Graceling and just gets better as it goes along.
2. Laini Taylor’s trilogy that begins with Daughter of Smoke and Bone has wonderful monsters, horrible angels, doors that go between worlds, and a peacock-haired heroine. These are big, thick books that beg to be read in single sittings. (We noticed that the series you like start in the real world and then get magical; this one is like that!)
3. There’s only one book out in Sabaa Tahir’s series, but more are coming! Ember in the Ashes is full of intrigue, forbidden love, unjust politicians, and did we mention intrigue? We think we did. An unwilling soldier and a reluctant spy meet in the halls of power; an addictive novel results.
Hope that helps!
