Barrel had waited for a long time before her texted Barbie.

The thing was, he wasn’t even sure if he wanted to do it. He’d waffled back and forth on it. He’d told no one exactly what had happened, not even Ting-Ting. By now, everyone he knew mostly had heard about the fire at least. He hadn’t really run into anyone from school, besides Finn who he worked with, but both Finn and Miss Attina had been super-duper nice about all of it. He hadn’t actually told anyone anything, aside from the fact he hadn’t been home.

The story was: he hadn’t even come home. He’d gone to the Qins for dinner. He had not seen Lock or Shock or anyone. Just heard about the house going up in flames when it was time for him to go home.

To be clear: he didn’t want to tell Barbie exactly what happened. Just…maybe more than everyone else knew. He felt like he needed to tell someone and he felt like he’d burdened Ting-Ting enough (and plus, she probably knew more of it than he’d actually told her, because she knew that Lock was now a vampire).

So he texted her asking if he could talk to her about something kinda serious and he held his breath. She’d replied pretty quickly and now Barrel was in Castle Suites, which he’d never been before, and he knocked on the door.

There was barking.

“Oh, I didn’t know you had a dog,” said Barrel, smiling a little, when Barbie opened the door.
