Product Spotlight…Unity Tactical Hot Button
Long have I been a proponent of a rifle mounted weapon light. I’ve used a number of different lights over the years. Lights from Streamlight and Arisaka. More recently I’ve been using a lot of Cloud Defensive lights, mainly their REIN series. I’ve mostly been a fan of just a good old push button tail cap. You know, the ones that have a full on and also have a momentary on function. Now Cloud Defensive has a very nice weapon light tape switch which I received with a full kit from them with their REIN Micro 2.0. Since that experience, I’ve been exploring other viable options for light control for any additional lights I might purchase in the future. Enter…Unity Tactical with their Hot Button.
I had been on the search for a new light for my recently built Geissele 10.3” SBR in DDC. Of course I wanted to find a light with an additional shade of anodized FDE, but I also wanted to take this opportunity to try something different than a traditional tail cap or light switch pressure pad. The light that I ended up choosing is a Modlite System PLH v2 that I picked up from Brownells. This particular light came with only the body, light head, battery and a charger. I would still need a tail cap and a rail mounted lighting switch. The Modlite uses Surefire compatible tail caps, so I opted for one that accepts the Surefire pressure switch connection. When looking for switch options over at Brownells, I found Unity Tactical. I had heard of Unity Tactical in the past, but had yet ordered or used one of their products. The Hot Button in FDE with a 7 inch cable connection happened to be in stock, so that’s what I ordered.
Upon receiving both my new light and Unity Tactical hot button from Brownells… I looked over the Hot Button and really like the idea. Rather than having a larger sized light pressure switch on the top of the rail, the Hot Button is a smaller device that takes up just a single M-Lok slot in my rail. With an SBR with limited rail space, this is a welcomed addition. The side of the Hot Button that faces the shooter has the button itself. Very much like the tail cap buttons I’m typically fond of, it has both a momentary on as well as an always on press. It’s angled on both sides which with my grip using my left hand, it feels very natural to place my hand upon the rail with my thumb pressing against the button for that moment I need to activate the light. On the opposite side of the shooter, the Hot Button is also angled, but with serrations that could easily be placed against a barrier for added stability. Overall, the design of the Hot Button can act as kind of a hand stop.
So far I’ve been thoroughly impressed with this new light switch from Unity Tactical. I do understand they have a couple other designs as well. Looking forward to trying out some of their other options when I find the need for a new light switch.
