I wanted to make the first Hero story a personal one, so here goes.
About a year ago, almost to the day, I was on a bit of a staycation with my mother, sister and nieces to a Jersey Shore town. On our first evening there, we headed to a local diner for dinner. We were seated at a table next to a group of 6 women and they were immediately taken by my youngest niece who was only about six weeks old. We learned that they were a group of friends who were on a girls trip away from the husbands and kids for a few days and were about to head home. The baby began to get a little fussy and one of them was extremely taken by her and asked if she could hold her. My sister not only let her do that but also let her feed her a bottle.
After some more conversation, they were getting ready to go. The woman who was most taken by the baby went to the rest room before they were heading out and we saw them all talking to the waitress and paying their bill. A few minutes later the note above appeared before us on the back of our check. We immediately thanked them profusely and one of them let us know that their friend don’t know that they do that. Since she lost Bobby, they’ve been doing random acts of kindness in his name and she doesn’t even know.
Just the thought of their kindness for their friend in the wake of such tragedy definitely brought us to tears. The small things they were doing (and I’m sure continue to do), for the memory of their friend’s little boy was just so beautiful. It definitely left an impact on us not only of their kindness but of gratitude for all of the moments that we have together because you never know when you won’t have them.
