Visiting the CCAD Degree Show 2018

On 7th June 2018, I came to visit CCAD’s new building in Hartlepool; I was invitied to the opening night of the CCAD Degree Show 2018. Many graduating students from all different subject areas have done amazing work on their final projects, and it was also great to see the students from the Textiles department produced such a colourful display of work.

And on Tuesday 12th June 2018, I returned to visit the Degree Show a second time, and got the oppotunity to take a few photos of the Textiles department.

Good luck to all of the 2018 graduates on their future endeavours.

On Tueday 1st October 2018, the Textiles Club has resumed at CCAD (now renamed Northern School of Art), and I got back into working on the seaside themed cushions. I managed to get the cushion covers completed on 9th October 2018.

I enjoyed working on making the cushions, even though some of them were tricky to machine stitch (the devore velvet is hard to keep still, and tends to move when it wants to). But I am pleased with the outcome overall.

Visiting the CCAD Summer Show 2018

On Tuesday 19th June 2018, I visited CCAD Green Lane Campus to see the CCAD Summer Show 2018 on the second-to-last day of the exhibition. The show was held for public viewing from 14th to 20th June 2018, and I wanted to get the chance to see the works before the show comes to an end.

From textiles to graphic design, and from fine art to fashion, many of the students in their final FE year produced their pieces of work, and it was being shown to the visiting public.

To the students who have exhibited your work at the CCAD Summer Show, good luck on your future paths - make it a colourful one.

Screen Printing Seashells at the Textiles Club

On Tuesday 8th May 2018, I managed to complete my two-colour seashell prints done at the CCAD Textiles Club. On that day, I decided to get my screen printing finished in preperation for the fabric being made into cushions. From the screen printing process, six fabric seashell prints were done in total, as I planned to make a set of six seashell cushions.

After the printed fabric were dried, they were then ironed to make sure that the prints were set, ready for the cushion construction process. As the binder colours were royal blue and pink, and some of the fabric were done with both natural and artificial dyes (two fabrics were dyed in a dandelion flower  baths), the colours of the yellow dyes and the binder colours go well together; the yellow dyed fabric represents the sand of the beach, and screen printed seashells are akin to the different coloured shells you can find in the sand.

The next Textiles Club session will be the last one, and I plan to make most of the session creating my seashell cushion set.
