       There were times Hunter wondered why  -  after all the pain and suffering he had a hand in  -  Cottage had even bothered.     She didn’t HAVE to reach out all those times,     she didn’t HAVE to care,      let alone SAVE HIM when Belos left him for dead ;     a lot of the time,     all that did was hurt her in the long run.    Even after he was out of commission,    he HURT her.     Intentional or not,     Hunter was less than a healthy part of her life,    and seemed to be more trouble than it was worth.     

                    In all honesty,     he could hardly BLAME the others for their hostility towards him.       He had hurt them too,    so they were well within their right to be upset.

         But it was times like these he remembered why he had gotten so ATTACHED to the human in the first place.      What kept drawing him back to her,    whether or not he recognized it in the beginning.      Cottage —-     Luz cared about people,     she tried to see the GOOD in everyone,    even if they didn’t deserve it.     Like him.    She saw he was suffering and wanted to help him out of his situation,      even when all he did was ignore the hand she had extended to him.

                For a moment,     all he could do was stare over at her from his seat.    Because he knew DAMN WELL Cottage rarely intended to say things that deep or personal.     It just happened,    and perhaps that’s what made this feel all the more REAL and surprising to Hunter.    How was he supposed to respond to that?      

              Nothing he could say felt like it would MATCH that,    could he even match that no matter how hard he tried?      He’d release a breath he didn’t know he had been holding,      shaking his head.    

          “ You’re weird,     I’ll never understand you... ”         Honestly,    Hunter wasn’t sure if he could do the same had he been in her position.      “ But I’m really glad you didn’t give up on me.     My life kinda sucked before you showed up.     Thanks for that. ”
