A dish cloth I found at my local thrift. It had a few small holes and thin places but it has such a nice character and feel that I really wanted to preserve it.

So I reinforced by copying the pattern with embroidery. Obviously my color matching isn’t great but it will be fine. I didn’t buy anything to match color, I just used embroidery floss I already had in my stash.

I still have a lot of work to do on this rag but this was my start. And fun fact! This was my first foray into embroidering. So if it looks shit it’s because I have no idea what I was doing 😂

Blue Jean Mend 10/2023

These jeans belong to my sister who is a farrier and all around farm gal so she is very tough on her pants. These in particular had a run in with an overweight Boer nanny goat while we were trimming their hooves.

Used a bunch of large basting/sashiko type stitches to hold the patch in place then flipped it over and stitched around the raw edges.

There was also a small hole a little farther down the leg that I patched the same way.

And one on the booty that I kind of wove over the hole and added a bunch of reinforcement stitching to make sure it was secure.

And these are the overall results. These jeans live on to battle another goat.

This was one of my first blue Jean mends. It wasn’t a really big hole but it was right on the inside seam so I wanted to fix it well.

I was experimenting with a woven type of patch and it worked pretty well but it was so dang tedious. I was using thin thread AND a really tight weaving pattern. I really screwed my eyes over in this mend because I had to use a magnifying glass light (like this one) to even finish.

Lesson learned. Sometimes it’s better just to see a patch to it even if it doesn’t look as cool. And a side note. I don’t even know where these pants are now (probably in my craft room with another hole)

Also I want to brag on this embroidery hoop. It is my go to for holding any sort of fabric while I sew. It has a raised ridge in the middle of the inside hoop and a matching slot on the outside hoop so they fit together really snug and it holds fabric so well. I had only ever used the cheap plastic ones with the little lip before I discovered this one and I will never buy those again.
