Did you know it's pretty easy to fix a knot in your warp while at the loom? Works best on cloth that is not super open- this is a broken twill
There's the knot! Be careful not to catch the tufts with the weft and weave past it. Then thread a blunt needle
Release tension on the warp, and use the needle to carefully follow the path of the knotted thread. You'll want to go at least one inch on either side
Be sure the new warp and the old thread are parallel and don't cross
Now keep weaving as normal! I remove the knot after washing, some people do it before. With cotton, the gap goes away easy enough once I pull out the old thread. Keep a few picks overlapping with the two threads to avoid any small holes, just like if you're changing weft in the middle of the piece.
The tea towels I'm making are an interesting structure - turned taquette. It's a double faced weave (meaning the back looks different from the front) with two colours in the warp and a single weft (whereas regular taquette is a single warp and two weft colours).
On 4 shafts, you get two blocks - A and B - and in each, one of the warp colours is dominant (and on the back side the other colour is dominant).
This means lots of fun if you use multiple warp blocks like I'm doing. Below there's 5 different colours playing together!
Here's a look at a single stripe of warp (purple and pink) with blue weft. On the back, it'll be big pink blocks and a smaller purple block. There's a lot of different ways you can use this structure - colours in the same family with different shades, dark and light pairs, keep one colour consistent (but moving between being A and B) etc.
I also love that turned taquette makes little "T"s with the warp (blue below). With block A the Ts face one direction, and with block B they turn around the other way. It's a great way to check for errors.
I'm having so much fun weaving these.
