Gabe Donnini writing the release from Chitika:
The data shows that the web market shares of iOS and OS X have been converging steadily since August. iOS has been posting regular gains, and has experienced an overall growth of nearly 50%, whereas OS X has seen its market share decline by 25% since a high point in September.
Interesting and predictable considering the number of iOS devices sold every quarter (over 52 million last quarter alone). It is odd that the Mac OS numbers are trending down considering that Apple is experiencing record sales each quarter on its traditional computers. Even more odd when you consider the overall PC market is in decline. That being said, this part of the report is flat out wrong:
Perhaps, Apples habit of launching cutting edge gadgets year after year is driving consumers to newer products. Combining this aspect with the similar functionality of iOS devices and a lower price point, it may be that consumers are choosing to go mobile, instead of purchasing more expensive Apple computers.
The reason being is as I said, Apple has had record breaking quarters for Macs as well as iDevices going back a couple years now. However, Mac Sales are only about 10% of what iDevice sales are now.
