“You’re bright. You were bright from the moment I met you, Jane. That brightness is slowly spreading, and now it even surrounds me. You’re sparkling, Jane. Always.” – Winter Woods
Awww… What a sweet talker ~
This is the second time that I have read this webtoon, and I appreciate it even more. It is one of the series that I will never get tired or reading and reading again. I also have friends who are new to webtoon, and this is one on the top list of my recommendations.
A few thousand years has passed since an alchemist created Winter. He is now living with Jane learning what it means to be alive as a human.
I could say that this webtoon is a masterpiece in terms of the story, characters and art style. I like the story itself because for me, it is something new, and it really catches my attention.
I like the back stories because it gave justice to the characters, especially to the antagonists. Well, all people had their own problems and struggles that we don't know. Thus I might say, it is really not right to judge anyone.
Another thing is the side story. If Winter gave me a breath of fresh air, Zoe’s story is the other way around. (I’m sorry that I will not give any more particular reasons why, but I hope you will understand what I mean once you read the story.)
Aside from the side stories, there’s also a story within a story which was properly arranged here. This added magical to the story flow. It is not confusing and you can still get back right on track of the main plot.
This story have different characters, and it is all enough to keep the story going. The characters here are very remarkable and each one of them has their own consistencies, and character developments. Also, I could say that you can learn and appreciate something on each one of them.
I must say that Winter really grows on me. He is like a new born baby (but without eyebrows ^^).
I fell in love with Winter Wood's character. He's just so pure, innocent and so adorable that wanting me to keep him and protect him. I bet a lot of girls fell for his character as well. (#ProtectWinter at all cost!)
Next is the art style. It is simple, yet well-detailed and full of feels. It emphasizes the mood of the story, being a fantasy and a thriller.
I like the attack of the creators on characters’ style, especially on Winter Woods. They made Winter from creepy to lovely! Whilst the other main characters, has their own features, and their eyes were so greatly created that makes them unique. It also took a big part of their characteristics.
When the author writes creepy and thrilled scenes, I can feel the tensions. When she writes magical scenes, I felt awe. There are scenes here which the author portrays what Winter sees, feels and even dream, and I somehow felt it too as I read Winter's POV.
Another thing, just like few webtoons I have read, there are details here that if you look twice, they very were meaningful.
There are so much emotions in this webtoon. It will make you laugh, then horrified, then sad, in just a chapter.
I could say that as I read this masterpiece, Winter is not the only one who learns about life, but me as well, as a reader. It taught me that despite of the dark past, struggles and hardships, life is still beautiful and wonderful to live in.
Have you ever experience of reading a story and imagining how it will look like once they adapted for big screens? Well, this is one of the stories that gave me that feeling. The feeling of wanting it to become a Korean drama. That's just how good it is! I can already imagine Winter Woods being portrayed by one of the admirable Korean actors. :)
