Season 2 Episode 20 (#62) commentary/theory session.

(This is a more organized version of my original comment on Webtoon.)

I would like to state that I'm finding the most recent development interesting according to the plot and storytelling we've already seen.

Despite the whole soulmate concept being a building block to the many things, romance is not actually a very heavily pressed issue. I've seen some theories stating that she might not get with Omega and the two end up just having a really close bond. I find that to also be an intriguing outcome. Platonic soulmates are underutilized in stories.

My theory I want to happen and believe there's a chance of happening is below.

Sibling/familial dynamic with Delta and Anya is a very positive outcome in my opinion. Many fans are quick to jump to the gun of shipping, but bonds are deeper than that (not saying romance cannot be deep; though to me, a best friend has always seemed closer than a lover.) A brother you have chosen to call your own is so much deeper in tune with you than a blood connection you cannot choose, no? The people you choose to keep in your life are more important than the people you have no choice over being around.

Anya has shown to be starved of the sibling aspect in life. Her younger sister is dead (and past chapters have shown that Alexei blames her for it). Her older brother is a self righteous prick who seems to hold very few humans with value beyond practical purposes. No other familial connections besides her mother are to be noted (I wonder who her dad is). To have Delta as her adoptive sibling/cousin/etc would be very great development for her healing process.

Despite a few panels where they have close bodily contact for various reasons (i.e. checking on Anya's health, keeping the other safe, etc.), there has been no inclination of romantic attraction or even anything beyond going the next step after trust. He was the internalized bias she has known all her life. She is finally opened up to seeing him as someone she can trust and rely on (I'm thinking maybe even beyond the initial deal to a point but that has no backing). Anya is a very empathetic and emotional person. She wants to understand Delta. It's one of the first steps to peace in her view.

He has proven (from what we have seen) to be honorable to his word despite all the pushing backwards he has done fudging drama king. He's proven to be bloodthirsty and fight with an almost animalistic vengeance despite being quite tactical. He pretty much tells her not to get too comfortable because he is a cold blooded killer; but I feel she has stopped listening to that show of intimidation at this point. She is shown smiling, almost in an amused sense, after the most recent honesty dump.

I feel they have finally passed the point of him making elaborate shows of drama (cause he's a dramatic ruler and we all know it) to make her realize how scary he truly is and entered the the stage of being honest with feelings and opening up to the other. Truly, a development.

They currently have a unique relationship of "I'm gonna analyze you and try to make you talk about feelings and the past" though the intentions for the analyzing are completely different.

Delta—beyond keeping Anya healthy both physically and mentally—has only shown active interest in Anya as an experiment of sorts. Regardless, I'm almost certain he'll warm up (in his own quirky way) in the next few episodes after the fight (Anya is impossible to not warm up to). He has made himself appear to be cold, protective, and calculating to a cruel degree; but if you read closely, you will notice he shows sparks of unnecessary kindness and emotion. His humanity is still very much inside whether or not he believes it.

Anya, on the other hand, has shown much interest in learning about the androids and their origins as well as current social/political/war (idk what to call it) issues. She wants peace between everyone with minimum bloodshed if possible. Her hesitance towards certain topics and interactions is understandable after the trauma she has gone through and situations of constant fear she's put in.

I genuinely believe that if Kat and Ali don't throw a plot twist in (though this whole series is a series of plot twists and angst) Anya and Delta will come back from this with a deeper bond. One bonds from saving the other's life, no? Let's see how the creators plan this out.

I'm really curious as to your theories. The fandom is so small. I'm curious if I'll find anyone else here to talk about the story with.

Ok ok OK.

So I just finished binging all of the webtoon Suitor Armor, and WOW does it get heavy! But! I have a theory about Baynard and Peres that I haven’t seen here yet!

I think They might be elves. Baynard always has his hair over his ears and the tips of Peres’ ears are always covered.

And there are a bunch of lines that would make sense with this angle! In episode 15, Lucia says that she wouldn’t want someone to be in danger for “simply being who they are” and Peres responds with

And she cuts him off, thinking that he meant if she’s also queer, but this line makes way more sense if it’s Peres asking if she’s also an elf living around humans, hiding her true self!

In episode 55, Baynard admits that they had suspicions that she might be an elf, and that they both have reasons for sympathizing with the fay. It is a bit interesting that, if they are elves, they wouldn’t tell Lucia even though they used to be fairies as well, but they probably have their own reasons for not telling her. Maybe, because of their loss of connection to their magic, they don’t relate to other fairies like they used to, and have a hard time trusting them.

But! I could be totally wrong! Just some things I noticed though! Either way, Baynard and Peres are both great friends and allies!

Subzero Theory: Kyro and Saya

Disclaimer: this theory does not include fast pass content after Ep. 114. So this could be false, and the fast-passers are 🤦🏻‍♀️ at me.

In the latest arc of Subzero, Raizo implies that Kyro had a direct role in the murder of Clove’s mother, Saya. However, we know that half-truth is Raizo’s first language. There’s more to the story than what Raizo reveals.

I believe that Kyro did confront Saya, but did not kill her. He was likely overpowered by her, and Saya, seeing that he was only a young boy, decided to spare him. It’s likely someone else *cough cough* Raizo *cough cough* had killed Clove’s mother.

That said, Kyro still bears a lot of guilt for his involvement in this incident. Ep.97 reveals that he had a recurring dream of Saya strangling him. Plus, he appears horrified at seeing the bloodshed during the aftermath flashback. It seems that confrontation, whatever happened there, still haunts him. I hope that he will be able to open up the Clove about this and that the couple will become closer.

Everything is Fine Webtoon: “Echoed Julia”

At first, I found the title of Episode 8 odd because the other titles were either objects or events related to the episode. However, after I googled “echoed Julia”, it’s probably the most interesting title.

The next result for  “echoed Julia” after a link to the webtoon chapter is a quote from the book 1984:

‘We are the dead’, he [Winston] said. ‘We are the dead’, echoed Julia dutifully. ‘You are the dead’, said an iron voice behind them.

From my understanding of a summary of the chapter this quote is from, after Winston and Julia said the lines above, they were captured by the Thought Police. In effect, the title feels like a foreshadowing of what might happen to Charlie (and Maggie if she’s not careful) after the police officer questions Charlie about the basement. The 1984 reference further supports that the Everything is Fine society is a dystopia.

I also have a theory that the 1984 reference hints at what is in Charlie’s basement; the two characters in 1984 said “we are the dead” because they think they are doomed and that the proles, who are the lowest class, are the hope of the revolution. From what we’ve seen in the Everything is Fine society, the lowest class so far seems to be the ones that go through the trash. There were also hints in the episode that the basement might not actually contain trains. From this, I concluded that Charlie houses some of the (cat?)people who go through trash in his basement, possibly as a form of rebellion.

I have only read some chapter summaries of 1984, so please let me know if I misinterpreted the events I mentioned here!

I have a theory

So from my knowledge it was never confirmed that Mrs. Hirahara was Yeong-gi’s biological mother. Of course there’s a chance that she is but there’s more evidence that Nol has a different mother from Kousuke, making him his step-brother. Nol has red hair and green eyes, Mr. Hirahara has brownish green (hazel?) so it’s genetically possible for Nol to have the eyes he has. On the other hand neither one of them have ginger hair although one of them could have strong genes so a red head can pop up every few generations. But you also see nothing of Mrs. Hirahara in him, but he’s a drawing and in one episode she stated that he resembles his father a lot. Mrs. Hirahara never addresses Nol as son, unlike she does with Kousuke. Another thing is in episode 64+65 Mr. Hirahara says “I’ll deal with you later. I have to go check on my wife” to Nol, usually when a parent is talking about their significant other which is also the child’s parent they say “Your father” or “Your mother” instead of “My wife” or “My husband”. Nol’s grandmother doesn’t seem to resemble Mrs and Mr. Hirahara’s appearance or personalities although we’re never seen much of her. The piece I collected was that the wiki fandom page never listed Mrs. Hirahara as Nol’s relative and put her in quotes as his “mother”. So from all the evidence I listed I came down to the conclusion that Nol is the product of an affair and his mother died when he was very young or Mrs. Hirahara is his biological mother and they had a falling out. I don’t know if this theory was confirmed or not I don’t have many social medias.

Why I’m not a big fan of Seraphina

Though my profile pic is of Sera, I honestly don’t like her character that much.

I realize that she is a lot of other people’s favorite character so sorry, but I have to share

1. She’s needy. Idk if ppl will agree with me on this one, but eh.

In their friendship, sera has always heavily depended on John. This alone isn’t bad at all, but the fact that John never asks Sera of Anything kinda makes me mad. She’s always asking him to do things or trusting him to fix her problems or being their whenever she needs him. Also, not necessarily bad, BUT SHE DOES IT SOO MUCH. She needs John do everything with or for her. And that bothers me.

Examples:

-When Sera needed a place to stay for a week, and just SHOWS UP at Johns house without asking for his permission first.

-soon after, when she gets stabbed, she goes back to John’s place even though she knows he’s at school and might not be able to help her

-asking him to help her learn to fight

-e.t.c. (I wanna get to my other points)

Now “needy” might not be the right word for it, but Sera’s constant state of mind that John will always be there to help her bothers me. He never bothers her for anything, except for that time in like the first chapter when John asks her to keep him company in the infirmary.

I know that this might be how she was raised. She got everything and anything whenever she needed it. It might not be her fault, but that doesn’t cancel it out. That’s still who she is.

2. She is always thinking about herself. (Also probably because of childhood)

Whenever we look into Sera’s perspective, it has always inadvertently been related to her and her wellbeing.

-Seraphina’s always been concerned with how people view her. She’s always worried about them judging, and due to her childhood, she was taught that she had to set an example. She always had to be perfect. She was told to show no weakness and to put herself first.

This has lead to her being a very self conscious and aware person. In every situation, she’s thinking about where she stands.

Why this is bad:

-she doesn’t understand the bigger picture

Sera will tend to miss what is happening around her due to her constant self awareness (idk what to call it). This is why it took her a while to notice the whole drama between Arlo and John, and why her interest in it isn’t as big as it should be, I mean, these people, who, as Sera knows, barely know know each other, suddenly having beef and acting strange. That should have set up some major flags. Blyke, for instance, has realized something is up and asked arlo and isen ‘what’s up with you and that John guy.’ Sera’s been missing this. Also, the whole EMBER deal. Like... girl... you are barely batting an eye at these MURDERS. I think she doesn’t even MENTION anything about this because she is focusing on HER problems, not some random ‘crazies’

-thinks everything has to do with her

Sera is a paranoid person. She takes the smallest things and somehow convinced herself it’s about her. When she came back from her suspension, she was thinking about how everyone was noticing her, and taking about, Sera believes she is always the center of attention. She didn’t realize that the students probably have more pressing matters to worry about than a student returning from suspension. Literally ALL her perspectives are about her in some way. I believe Sera makes a bigger deal of herself that anyone else. (This point has trash detail, but think about it)

-She never thinks about other people

I’m just gonna get to the point with this one. Sera never truly thinks of something. With John, she’s always like,” how can I be like him,” or,” How does he handle being a cripple.” They are always in relation to her. Her wondering how she can improve her lifestyle and how, while she’s basically a god, he’s not. She never is concerned with how he is. She never asks,” are you okay,” or,” why are you acting so weird.” We see this while she is talking with arlo in the beginning.
