It’s true these packs could be useful for every guest but especially those coming a long distance and who are not familiar with the area. I know just everybody has a sat-nav on their phone but I have also been to too many weddings where guests are late because their sat-Nav sent them to the wrong place. Talk with your venue, they’ll know if there’s is a bit of a map black hole and will be able to provide you with a well though out set of directions. Your venue will be able to help you out with local taxi numbers and local attractions too. A Saturday wedding in the last week of July is probably going to be the most expensive day of the year for many wedding venues. If you want to cut a little from your budget consider less popular dates. A wet Wednesday in January might not be the best option but consider midweek in the summer outside of the July August rush. December is also a very popular wedding month and your are competing with the Christmas party crowd too. Know the rules at your chosen wedding venues. Many places have restrictions especially some churches. These might impact your choice. If you have chosen a venue because it has a beautiful terrace overlooking rolling hills make sure it will be available to you on your wedding day. The most extreme example I have come across was a church where I was told I had to stop taking photographs once the bride crossed the church threshold. I was not allowed to start again until the service was concluded! As a wedding photographer that kind of restricts me and robbed the couple of some beautiful images as it was a very emotional service. Just because it’s traditional doesn’t mean you have to do it! Your wedding should be your day and reflect you as a couple. The standard wedding day format is a good structure to build your day around and as a wedding photographer it gives me a comfortable flow that I am familiar with. But it’s your day! Take as much or as little tradition as suits you. Keep me and your guests on there toes if you want. The further you are away from the ‘norm’ the more memorable it will be.
