Am I defined by my color?
Pillars for defining beauty have always been a matter of discussion in India. Beauty has been a slave of color since time immemorial. Whites are termed to be pretty and beautiful, while black color of the skin holds priority in marking you as ugly or not suitable for certain activities. Not just in India but developed countries like USA have also been a victim to this sick mentality, where dusty or dark shade of the skin is looked down upon. There have been movements like BLACK LIVES MATTER to make people realize that skin shade does not define a person and every human life is important irrespective of their color. When it comes to beauty parameters, inner beauty of heart and soul should be a major criterion. Not only the white countries but also places where dark is the most common shade of skin, have failed to realize this very concept. For example, India. Books for primary students have been seen often to promote this mentality by portraying a black woman as ugly through pictures.
What people need to know is that skin color is totally based upon the melanin concentration of the body which has higher concentration in places where Sun rays are stronger and has nothing to do with a person’s social life. This is why the skin color of people in cold countries vary from this in warmer regions. Science has long back proven this fact but to our grief even educated humans are blinded by this scientifically and mentally wrong way of thinking. Several fairness cream advertisements have also contributed to this misconception by promoting fairness as a factor to increase your beauty, which leads to people considering themselves as inferior if they possess a dark shade of skin.
However, it is a matter of shame for the society to look down upon dark skin and deprive them of their rights. True examples of beauty can be seen in models like Anok Yai, who overcame the fear of society and proved that beauty has no relation with color. Presidents like Barack Obama have proven that their beauty lies within their heart and their capabilities not in their color.
Still, there are cases where black lives are in danger. Recently cases have been seen in countries like USA, New Zealand, India where people are protesting and sacrificing their lives to eradicate this frame of mind. Whom are they standing against, their government? No, it’s against the mentality prevailing in the society. So, stand up, bring this change in you and try your best to remove this illusion where whites are superior. Educate your children and people around you so that world becomes a better place and not just for the whites but everyone. Create a world where humans are not divided into black and white. Every bit of contribution will lead to a great change.

#WeDemandChange.
"Im honored to be an Olympian, but #wedemandchange #rule40"
On #wedemandchange IOC says restrictions on athletes only for a month & it is up to national Olympic committees to enforce #London2012
— Cassell Bryan-Low (@CassellBryanLow) July 30, 2012
Sanctions are for national Olympic committees but "I don’t think it will come to that" says IOC's Mark Adams of #wedemandchange #London2012
— Cassell Bryan-Low (@CassellBryanLow) July 30, 2012
Now headed to one of my fave sponsors BP for my appearance ;-) think I can tweet about them #Rule40 so confusing :-/
— Sanya Richards-Ross (@SanyaRichiRoss) July 30, 2012
