“Hey, TK. TK. Wake up.” 

Across the room TK doesn’t stir, and Carlos sighs and whips a pillow at him. 

TK groans and lifts his head off the pillow. “Fucking what?”

“My hoodie, the one that goes with my warmups. Have you seen it?”

TK blinks at him. “You woke me up at eight forty five to ask me where your shit is?”

“Don’t say eight forty five like that’s late. I have class in fifteen minutes and it’s cold out and—.”

“Fifty isn’t cold,” TK interrupts as he rolls over in bed, the sheets slipping around him, giving Carlos a clear view of his name and number printed across TK’s back. 

“Hey,” Carlos snaps, crossing the short distance and pulling at TK’s covers. “Thief.”

“What the hell is wrong with you?” TK snaps as he yanks the covers back. “Get away from me.”

“You’re wearing my sweatshirt!”

“No, I’m not,” TK says, anger and annoyance growing enough that he sits up and pulls at the collar of the hoodie. “This is—.” He looks down with a frown. “Oh. Shit.”

“Yeah,” Carlos says, his hands on his hips. 

“I came home late,” TK remembers, his eyes squeezed shut. “I grabbed the first thing I could find. Sorry.”

Carlos huffs. He had high hopes for TK as a roommate during orientation. He seemed nice and chill, and when Carlos saw the pride flag sticker on TK’s laptop he thought he could be himself, finally. 

TK being drop dead gorgeous was just a bonus. 

The optimism Carlos had lasted for about a week. TK is still gorgeous, almost to a fault, but he’s also unorganized and unserious. He comes home late, and loud, and then he sleeps in, skipping more classes than he attends. 

Everything about him screams trust fund baby who knows his parents will bail him out while Carlos has to fight to keep his GPA up to stay on the baseball team so he doesn’t lose his scholarship. 

Now, Carlos can add a blatant disregard for personal property and larceny to the list.  

TK’s eyes start to drift shut and Carlos snaps his fingers in front of his face. 

“Hey, don’t fall asleep.”

“Stop,” TK whines, “I don’t feel good.”

“Yeah, because you’re hungover. What is it, the fourth time this week?”

“Didn’t know you were keeping tabs, mom,” TK says, and Carlos rolls his eyes.

“I’m not keeping tabs, but when you stumble in at two in the morning and wake me up, it tends to stick in my memory.”

“Excuse me for having fun in college,” TK tells him sarcastically. “And sorry you don’t have a boyfriend that invites you to shit.”
