Solar System series by Jian Guo. 2016.
Jian Guo is an architect, illustrator and designer who lives and works in Shanghai. He describes his own work as “stained glass-style” art, and enjoys creating fanart - his most popular to date is that of the Lord of the Rings series.
When the Solar System series was first proposed, there was some debate as to whether or not to include Pluto, as it was no longer considered a planet in the traditional sense. However, the series was deemed an homage to the past, Pluto retaining its place by virtue of its established position in classical astronomy.

The Dashing Muscovy Ducks Rushing through the Lotus Pond by Hsia Yang (夏陽). 2014. Acrylic and collage on canvas.
Hsia Yang, born in 1932, was mentored by Lee Chun-Shan, one of the pioneers of abstract painting in Taiwanese art, and went on to found the Ton Fan Group, alongside seven other artists.
In The Dashing Muscovy Ducks Rushing through the Lotus Pond, the lotus leaves are precisely contoured against the surface of the water. Hsia’s depiction of the pond, rendered in powdery opacity and devoid of reflection, projects the lotus leaves into the foreground. Without any framing objects, it appears as if the lotus pond could go on forever. In contrast to the solidity of the pond, Hsia's ducks are translucent and wispy, quivering with momentum.

From No.4 Pingyuanli to No.4 Tianqiaobeli (从平渊里4号到天桥北里4号) by Ma Qiusha (马秋莎). Video. 2007.
Ma Qiusha was born in 1982 and currently lives and works in Beijing, China. Ma Qiusha believes that the discovery of “personal history” is a must and that being a Chinese means any personal history can be reflected upon the larger cultural history in the country.
From No.4 Pingyuanli to No.4 Tianqiaobeli is a confessional that explores the artist’s conflict with personal, parental, and societal pressures in order to be considered as successful. Ma reflects on the double-edged relationship between children and parents in Chinese households where parents give children their selfless love with a sense of forcefulness.
Holding a razor blade on her tongue, the artist tells short stories about herself. She describes being compelled to strive for perfection and she talks about a search for meaning and understanding. She wonders about her parents’ approval and worries about her value to society as an artist and a daughter. Her speech is muddled and stunted by the cutting blade. Ma’s language and her facial expression are two clues/paths in this video that have the same destination—pain.

Korla (库尔勒) by After Journey (艾福杰尼). 2017.
After Journey is a Chinese rapper and producer from Xinjiang. His rise in popularity can be attributed to his solid performances on the popular show, The Rap of China (中国有嘻哈), where he earned a third place finish. Since then, he has released several singles, and has toured the U.S. performing with fellow Xinjiang rapper Huang Xu. Most recently, After Journey was the rap trainer for the Chinese idol survival show, Idol Producer (Season 2).
After Journey sang Korla in episode 10 of The Rap of China. The song is inspired by and dedicated to the eponymous Xinjiang town in which After Journey was born, featuring a slow beat, uplifting lyrics, and the bright voice of fellow The Rap of China contestant Cat (雨馨).
