After that heartbreaking Countess POV in episode 207 I've been thinking about Polly and the Countess bonding over their love for Yaretzi and their fear of her leaving them because "she has someone else now".
Maybe the Countess is still sitting on the rooftop after her conversation with Barb when Polly joins her. He's the last person she wants to see, and she almost glares at him—but then she sees the look on his face.
"I can leave," he says quietly, and she reassures him that it's fine, there's more than enough space on the roof, but he only smiles sadly.
"What I meant is: I can find somewhere else to live. It's okay, really, as long as I can still visit Mort—"
"What?" The Countess asks, confused. "You just came back. Why would you want to leave?"
Polly sighs. "I can see how much you love her. And she loves you just as much. I've been gone for a long time, and I'm glad Yaretzi found a new family, I truly am. I wouldn't want to intrude on what you two built together."
The Countess stares at him in shock. She's the odd one out here, not Polly. She's the one who's supposed to leave and let him and Yaretzi and Mort be the weird, adorable little family they were before Polly disappeared.
"Don't," she tells him, more sharply than she intended. "Her heart would break if she lost you again. And so would Mort's."
Polly is silent for a moment. "Yaretzi always had a big heart," he agrees then.
"Perhaps it's big enough to love both of us?"
They smile at each other, tentatively, and watch the sun rise together.
