This was the most rewarding yet petrifying task that I have done in a long time. Maya Angelou has always been embedded in my heart as an educator and now that she has past, I felt an overwhelming pressure to keep her spirit alive by making her my muse on paper. This made me nervous because I wanted to give her voice justice and five pages just is not enough. There are so many gem stones lodge in her mountain of wisdom that I had to dig deep and channel her mastery of words. The awe that I have felt for this woman has multiplied and if I can be but half the woman she was, my life would be worth the journey.
