So here we are with the second week of our Design class. We were asked to make a collage for each day that would tell a story. This was our schedule:
Monday: you will focus on your “head” to tell a story about something you hate. #FlowItShowIt
Tuesday: you will focus on your “body” to tell a story about a “feeling” of yours. #FactorOfConduction
Wednesday: you will focus on your “hand” to tell a story about your past. #LiveInHangzhou
Thursday: you will focus on a landscape (seen from above) to tell a story about “your personal landscape”. #FlexibilityOfThings
Friday: you will focus on telling a story about your future. #AstralDance
This week was interesting and challenging. I didn’t know that it was possible to make collages like these on my iPhone. I used Eraser and Pic Collage the most but I also played with Pixlr and Effectshop. All these apps are free at the App Store. I know it would have been faster if I did these in photoshop but then I would deprive myself of the experience so I stuck with mobile apps.
What I found challenging was figuring out what I wanted to say and how to say it with the photos that were readily available. It was challenging to keep complex ideas simple. I also had to do a lot of looking within. I guess that’s because in design, you really need to look deeper in order to draw out the message you want to portray. And if I can’t even look into myself, how can I be expected to look into those I am designing for?
This week was fun. Now looking forward to the next set of assignments. :)
