SAM: it's like you're peering into my soul. there's classic rock and other guitar jams. some whitney, celine, mariah, and kelly 'cause she's the hometown girl. I can't make it too long otherwise I'd never leave the dang shower.
SAM: you? not popular? pfft. you know I'm always down for hanging out with you. I figure I'd eventually hear those little fists at my door 'cause you invited yourself over to make me watch lilo and stitch again. I swear I'm hearing that movie in my sleep now. I got you on the birthday kisses, tho.
SAM: mhm. you mentioned that before... you ain't getting me to crack btw. take those smileys somewhere else.
DANI: i mean, i've spent enough time around you to know what you like and don't like, i pay attention ya know. i could spend hours in my shower belting out some bey and rihanna so.....i feel that deep in my soul.
DANI: oh hush, quit boosting me, i've been keeping low as of late. i mean, i could always just watch it alone, but that means you wouldn't have me to play with your hair, even though im sure you have plenty of offers for that. it's my favorite movie :( thanks, i'll even settle for pecks since you've been down lately.
She was honestly still in disbelief that all of this was happening, in her 25 years of living she never had a big party with this many people actually showing up. It was a lot, and she’d already teared up earlier in the night when everyone sang her and her sister happy birthday. Now, dressed in her red bikini, she held her drink in her hand and plopped down in the sand as she watched the water come and go from the shore with the nice glow of the fire not too far behind her. It was nice, peaceful, even if she was pretty wasted at this point, she couldn’t help the smile that slowly spread along her lips as she closed her eyes.
Sure, she should’ve been packing, but the minute she started she felt like throwing up so it could be put off until tomorrow. Dani had one night left in her penthouse, she wasn’t going to waste it sitting around crying in this haze she had put herself in. And it wasn’t like she could sleep like this either, she hadn’t really thought that out when she impulsively relapsed in her bad habit. So now, she was sitting on the roof, practically cleared out at this time of night as the left over fireworks popped off in the distance. Knees tucked to her chest as she watched the sky, a small smile tugged on the corner of her lips as she tilted her head to the side, fingers toying absent mindedly with the hem of her short white dress that laid against her tanned legs. Well past her emotional breakdown, at least for the moment, she closed her eyes and hummed as the night breeze greeted her face.
Drink in hand, Dani was well over her usual five drink limit, but considering it was her birthday and she was trying to let loose for once on her special day....she figured why not. So, she skipped along the sand as she took another sip, music filling her head as she swayed side to side with a smile. Eyes landing on the closest person and grabbing them with a laugh, adjusting the crown Sam had given her on top of her head as she grinned, “C’mon, dance with me, you gotta....it’s my birthday after all!!”

Rolling out of Morgan’s bed, where she’d spent the night, she was woken up by a call from her mother a little earlier than she’d expected. So she let it ring, allowing it to go to voicemail because the last thing she needed was for her mother to catch her at a place that wasn’t hers, she was a little too spaced out to think of a good lie to tell her at this point, so she opted for waiting it out until she was back in her own space. Which was only shortly thereafter when she’d said her goodbyes and made her way to the elevator, clicking the callback button on her screen.
Her birthday was always a touchy day for her, simply for the fact of her past parties never going as planned, and instead she looked at the day as a day to be nervous. Don’t get her wrong, she loved attention, but a whole day devoted to her wasn’t exactly ideal. It meant TOO much attention, too many eyes on her, and with how she’d been practically spiraling into her bad habits....she was nervous about anyone catching her slipping up.
Still, she needed to call her mother back, after all the woman was the reason she was here on earth in the first place, right? And she adored her mother, always being able to count on her if she needed advice and guidance.
Soon enough, after only two rings, her mother picked up. “What, you can’t pick up when I first call you, Miss Birthday girl???” Was the first words to come out of her mother’s mouth, but the grin on her face showed she was only joking.
“Hi, mama, sorry I was totally knocked out. I stayed up most of the night, couldn’t sleep too well.” At least that was sort of the truth, she didn’t need to know all the nitty gritty details of exactly why she was up a majority of the night. “And don’t worry, it wasn’t anything bad, just restless sleeping as usual.” She assured her with a small laugh as her mom seemed relieved and nodded her head.
“Your sister told me that someone is throwing you two a party? Should be fun, are you excited?” It was a loaded question, seeing as her mother was there when no one had come to the last party she attempted to throw, and Dani could see the look in the older woman’s eyes as she looked into the camera with a softer smile.
“I am excited....this guy, Sam, he planned all of it and I just found out like, yesterday, that it was going on. So, totally caught me off guard there but....yeah, I’m actually excited for it. It’s the first party since, well, you know...“
“I know, mija, I know. But it seems you have a good support system over there if they’re doing all this for you and your sister. And you guys will finally get to celebrate together after forever, so I know you’ll have a great night. Did you get your present??” She questioned with a raise of her brow, smiling a bit at Dani’s puzzled expression as she shook her head.
“No? I didn’t get any packages.” Well, besides the packages from her fans but, her mother didn’t need to know that either.
“It’s not a package, I put it in your bank account.”
Automatically, her eyes widened as she reached for her computer, checking into her account and glancing back to the screen in shock, “Mami, you didn’t have to----”
“No, nada de eso protestando, no quiero escucharlo.” She cut her off with a grin, shaking her head as she shrugged, “Work gave me a raise, I have to spoil my girls, so.....enjoy it. Buy something nice for yourself, you deserve it mija.”
“Gracias, mami. Really, I’m so lucky to have you as a mother....I love you so much.” Dani said softly, blinking back any tears that threatened to spill, because she really was lucky to have her mother in her life and have someone to shape her into a woman. With the absence of her father, her mother failed to be a great role model, “I hope when I grow up and become a mom, I can be half the woman you are...” She murmured, glancing to her hands as she smiled a bit to herself.
“You will me, hermosa. You will be and so much more. Remember you are the sun and all it’s beams.”
In her head, she protested, but outside she smiled as she glanced at her mom once more through the screen, “And you are the universe, thank you.”
