Week 3
Okay, I think I should recall my blog as The Work Weekly, to be honest, because I am so used to surfing at night, but by the time I get back I should really be hitting the showers and bed but I don't. So I don't really have time to blog without being detrimental to my health--
--Unless I blog in the morning. Dang it. Okay interesting point.
Okay, a summary of what happened:
1) I have since replied Mic with an email, and he has phoned me back (because he knows the woes of typing out Essay Emails and wanted to cut that out entirely). Points to remember:
Focus on what I need to do. Work hard. Don't care so much about what other people think or want: you will naturally attract the people who fit you by being you.
Interesting point: he was like me. He also started in F&B at first. But obvs his boss was different. Not like Ken, more conservative.
2) I have went to another Group Site Dinner yesterday. Played MJ (mah jong). And I got a quick lesson from that for all the doubts that has been sent my way from other people as to why I am here, doing what I'm doing in such a "tough physical job" with these "rough people"... and I just don't what to say. It's been everyone: coworkers, part time coworkers, customers... and damn, I just need to keep telling myself the pros:
I prefer physical labour over boring office administration.
It feels realer to me, my work. Dealing with real customers, rather than my theories in university. (I am confident I can go back still and pursue professorship, but I don't think I want to.)
I have a chance for growth in this company. But this is also the thing: I can't tell where I can go. But that's f*ing alright. I'm so green and new, of course I don't know how far and well I can go. I'm a merc, like my dad, just build my profile. I talked to my dad, and he told me if he could he'd do FnB too, because it's "real". You can go out and really see your competitors, and build your profile and everything.
Anyway, I'll finish with the MJ lesson I learned, since today when I was going back home, another coworker was like: It's a waste you're here (blah blah, heard this all before), you can do so much more since your English is so much better. Why did you study history. etc.
And I just didn't know how to respond, and so I just shuffled and slid around with my answers (no1curs about my answers anyway. No one is really interested, lol.) And then my MJ lesson:
"Get rid of all your "single word" tiles first (they are usually useless, unless circumstances, obvs)."
Meaning: You will always have to prune your hand a little before you get a good hand and win.
And I will win with my own life.
Whatever I learn here, I can take it with me elsewhere.
