Weekend Pick: SNAP Print Affair
Get into the Christmas spirit this Saturday with SNAP's annual fundraiser, Print Affair! This year's theme is "Pretty Paper," a very apt description for all the beautiful pieces that come out of SNAP's print shop on the regular.
Tickets are $25 for non members ($20 for members) and can be purchased here. All money raised from this event goes to support the gallery and educational programming.

Weekend Pick: Opening Receptions at Latitude 53

Tonight at 7pm, two new shows are opening at Latitude 53: "Classroom on Culture Reflection: Confucius City Edmonton Project" by Jing Yuan Huang, and "Rhythms Humanitarian" by Madhi Neamah.

The Works Gallery at Jackson Power (srsly coolest gallery in town) has another show opening this weekend! Installation View, curated by our friend Stacey Cann, is an installation of... you guessed it, installation art! By some great local Edmonton artists. Check out this exhibition in an old office space (!) between today and October 25. For more info, read on below (from the Facebook event page):
The Works Gallery at Jackson Power is pleased to present Installation View, an exhibition exploring installation art’s capacity to imagine novel spaces. The show is curated by Stacey Cann and showcases the work of four emerging artists:
Devon Beggs Sydney Lancaster Rhea Lonsdale Ali Nickerson
"Installation" became part of the vocabulary of art in the late 1960s. The term includes work intended to be permanent and temporary, with value placed on the entirety of a space rather than a portion of it. The works featured in Installation View all have a strong sense of narrative that envelops the viewer in new environments. Ranging from serene to menacing, these spaces transport the viewer into a story, transforming them into characters that might inhabit these new territories.

About The Works Gallery at Jackson Power: The Works Gallery at Jackson Power is a unique venue made possible through a partnership between The Works International Visual Arts Society and Jackson Power Electric. Through this program, the space is used as a gallery twice each year to exhibit contemporary artworks and to promote critical dialogue through writing about visual art. Past exhibits include Manus, curated by Sean Borchert; Text Crutch, curated by Robert Harpin; and Gastrosophy, curated by Olivia Chow.

Check out the newest exhibit at Creative Practices Institute, a solo show by local artist Erik Osberg titled Some Solitary Beacons. From the Creative Practices Institute's Facebook event:
Some Solitary Beacons will feature four works by local artist Erik Osberg that will challenge and engage the public on several levels.
Opening Reception Date: Oct 10th 7PM
Location: 10149 122st Edmonton
Exhibitions Dates: Oct 10 - November 16, 2014
Woven through this collection is his query with worship, technology and the cliché.
On October 3 Osberg spent 10hrs installing one of his new works titled 'Lipstick Kisses' which saw him cover the walls of the gallery with individual Chanel Rouge Coco #25, Vendome lipstick clad kisses.
The other works include a stereographic, nearly abstract video loop, an interventionist sculpture as well as an 8x12 foot grid of 4x6 inch photographs.

To launch its partnership and kick-off its fundraising campaign, The OT Collective is having a celebration at 9 pm on October 3 at Boyle Street Plaza
Money raised from the event will pay for necessary renovations to transform The Orient Travel from a vacant storefront into a gathering place for artists and designers in central Edmonton. This will enable the collective to expand its support of cultural producers by fostering collaboration and critical engagement. As well, it will set the pace for 97th street to become an increasingly visible and active gathering place for creative professionals to learn, inspire and work with each other.

Weekend Pick: Reception and Performance for 'The Right Side of Magic' at dc3 Art Projects
Blair at the opening of PrairieSeen's Inventory exhibit
Come see a survey (1986-2014) of Blair Brennan's work in The Right Side of Magic at dc3 Art Projects. Included in the exhibition is a new collaborative performance and installation piece called An Unlearned Human Language, with Brian Webb and Allyson McIvor. Performances are only tonight (Friday) at 8 PM and tomorrow (Saturday) at 8 PM, after which is a reception. Tickets are $10 ($8 for students) and can be purchased at dc3.
To note: the performance is also a part of Visualeyez, Edmonton's annual performing arts festival. More performances are happening throughout the city until September 21.
