@endlessly-cursed 6th December: Emerson Page, Galen Stagg, and Teddy Arthur playing poker? What could possibly go wrong?
It was well known that Emerson bent the rules to get what he wanted and he wasn’t going to change that when it came to playing poker with Lady Gray’s male guests. He would, metaphorically and literally, keep his cards close to his chest in order to win. He wore his best suit and a smirk on his face as he joined the others around the table, distracting them with small talk and silly little card tricks. Emerson helped himself to drinks, knocking them back but never getting tipsy: he would take full advantage of what the Grays were offering, gratefully so, but he was partial to the whisky (if his father was here he’d more than likely kill him) and found himself munching on any snacks he could get his hands on.
Galen, meanwhile, had never played poker in his life. He was not a gambling man and his mother hadn’t taught him to be. Hadrian was, that’s for sure, so he’d have fit right in. But Galen had to ask Teddy that afternoon to teach him the basics and Teddy happily obliged. He was out of place enough as it was in Winbourne, even without the knowledge of his own noble heritage he was still uncomfortable, but found great reassurance and solace in being with friends. He hadn’t set out to win any game that night, but somehow managed to win just the one. Galen thought Emerson and the others had let him have an easy victory just to make him feel better, but either way he was still very proud of himself.
Teddy was a natural at poker, a casual player with a couple of tricks up his sleeve. He and Emerson had instigated a war just through a glance and spent most of the night trying to out do each other. Teddy’s charisma and occasional impression of one of their fellow guests were good distractions, making the other laugh and lose their focus. Unlike Emerson, though, Teddy wasn’t a sore loser. He accepted defeat like a gentleman and told everyone how lovely it was to play with them: it was the truth, not just some show, and he would wind down the night with a poetry reading; something inspirational, something about companionship, or something about the beauty of the night…
weekend with the grays: 8th of december; part 2
Anthony had begun to question his decision to attend this whole affair. He was a man of logic and reason, and there was nothing logical or reasonable about the way his breath caught and train of thought crashed and burned every time he laid his eyes on Almira Iverach.
for @endlessly-cursed christmas event!

“Fiona! Are you really wearing that to the ball?”
“Yes? What’s wrong with it?”
“You can’t wear a suit to a ball!”
“What’re the men wearing then? Are they just all going starkers?”
“That’s not what I meant and you know it.”
for @endlessly-cursed ‘s event ^^ I’ve not interacted with anyone much but I’ll never pass on an opportunity to draw period clothing.
Neither Fiona or Fenella have been to a ball or anything remotely fancy, but they’re trying their best, bless them.
Fenella’s dress is based on this gown once again, Fiona’s is based on the many pics of Victorian women in suits lol though I don’t think they usually did wear them to parties ahaha at least not serious ones
Unni sighed heavily as she stuffed her clothes into her trunk unceremoniously, not caring that they were all balled up. Her hands shook as she reached for a nightgown. She clenched her fist, forcing it to steady. Unni took a deep breath and kept packing.
It has been a few years since her sister Khione died. There was an attack on her village and, because of Unni’s recklessness and need to prove herself in battle, she failed to protect her sister. Ever since then, Unni has dreaded returning. The room she shared with her sister was way too quiet and a constant reminder that she wasn’t strong enough.
Ever since then, she’s been running as far as she can from that house. Unni transferred to Hogwarts and only goes back home to Skalafell for the summer and winter breaks. The summer isn’t so bad as Unni could stay out of the house and distract herself with training. Winter was the worst. Everyone was so happy for Yuletide and she was haunted by all the memories she had with her sister. The two of them loved the Yuletide feast. They would sneak sips of the warm spiced mead and then go running off, hand in hand, with the shouts of adults chasing them out of the longhouse and into the cold night air, their nose and cheeks flushed with red as they giggled.
Time, as luck would have it, keeps ticking along and it was Christmas time yet again. Unni shook herself from the memories and shoved the last items into her trunk, slamming it closed with a sharp clunk. She glanced around the dorm for anything she might have missed when something caught her attention. Bending down, Unni retrieved a piece of parchment from the ground that was halfway hidden under her bed. It was the invitation to Winbourne given to her by Primrose Gray a few days ago. She had casted it aside and promptly forgot about it as she wasn’t one for socializing. However, it now sparked an idea. She’d much rather subject herself to the idle gossip of other girls than go home to that empty room and pretend she’s happy.
Folding the invitation up she stuffs it into her bag and then rushes out of the dorm on her way to the Owlery. She would have to send an owl to her family and let them know she wouldn’t be coming home as she was invited elsewhere. She would also have to find Primrose and tell her she would be attending after all. Unni just hoped she didn’t mind if she brought along her sword to the fancy party. She never went anywhere without it.
This is a little one shot for @endlessly-cursed’s Christmas event! I’m not sure how many days I will participate as I’m pretty busy with my PR fic this month and a few other things. I wasn’t going to use Unni for this as she doesn’t like socializing but then I realized it would make a great character moment 😌
Happy FFWF? What are your OCs dream Christmas gifts?
Thanks for the ask!

Here’s a short little piece that I wrote at 6:30 this morning in celebration of @endlessly-cursed’s “Weekend with the Grays” event! Like I mentioned, I don’t think I’ll be able to do something for every day because of uni deadlines but no doubt I’ll have fun with what I do manage to participate with! In this piece, of course, Siobhan is mentioned and she belongs to the lovely @kc-and-co
“Hey, you going to Lady Gray’s party?”
Galen looked up from his book to see Teddy standing over him with an excited smile. Galen had sought refuge in the Gryffindor common room to read by the fire and it was the middle of the day, so he expected it to be almost empty. And he certainly wasn’t expecting Teddy Ellison to still be here- he’d usually be in the courtyard instigating a snowball fight.
“I’m not sure,” Galen replied. “You know parties aren’t my thing.”
“Oh, come on, it’ll be fun! It’s an excuse to dress up, eat fine food, see how somebody else lives… the other boys are going so it’s not as if you’ll be in the company of strangers.”
“No, I suppose not…”
Galen trailed off. He knew that Lady Gray had an exquisitely expensive grand piano that he simply couldn’t pass up the opportunity to play. Of course there would be dancing, too, and Galen found that very therapeutic. He imagined that, if his mother and brother were here, they’d be encouraging him to attend as well, telling him to let his hair down and just have fun.
And even Siobhan might be there. What a spectacular sight that would be: seeing the most beautiful girl in the world in a lavish dress and asking her to dance so she could show it off. Perhaps they could even take a stroll through the grounds or sneak into the library–
“So?” Teddy prompted, abruptly tearing Galen away from his thoughts. “Are you going or what?”
Galen smiled. “Yeah, as long as you help me find the right suit to wear.”
Teddy mirrored his friend’s expression. “It would be my pleasure.”
December 3rd — Here’s Mira at the Gray’s Welcome Ball! @endlessly-cursed ❄️ she’s representing Ravenclaw with an off-the-shoulder blue dress that has golden accents and a blue rose flower crown to match. Naturally she intends to entice Anthony @gaygryffindorgal to dance with her for hours on end and she’d love to gossip with her host & roommate Primrose 💙
