On the picture, I used red push pin icons upon indicating two main sources of contamination. The blue push pin icons indicate the wells that are contaminated. While the green push pin icon indicates the spring which is already contaminated.
The region contains a series of ridges to the east and a broad, gentle valley to the west. Small towns are scattered across the ridges and valleys. There are also several farms, a dairy, and a number of industrial sites, each of which is labeled with a unique name. The region’s water is contaminated. We are given the task to observe and locate the areas that are contaminated and from where such contamination most likely came.
Based on my observation, the region has a main river and the water flow’s direction is from right to left starting from the top. As it flows, it passes through the 4 springs’ location until it reaches the valley’s bottom part. In the view of the fact, the river started from the top and apparently as the water flows downward, the waste and the toxic materials from the factories where it passes by was brought by the water’s flow and causes the river to be polluted.
One of the river’s polluter is the Cornhead Coal Mine. It is very noticeable. Right? It is because there are coals that around it. According to what I’ve read, one of the mines had some sort of chemical spill. However, it was not reported. In result, the activity at the mine and on the power plant causes the pollution of the water. It is because the fine coal dust which is blown by the wind and washed into the flow along the valley.
But wait, there’s more. At the bottom part of the region, the wells there are also contaminated. Particularly these are the wells D, E, H, I, M, and N. The cause of wells D and H’s contamination is because beside it there is a factory which is the Metal Works. Of course, as we all know, metals can pollute water because of its toxic materials. While the cause of contamination for wells E, I, and M is the spring 1 because it has been already contaminated. And as we can see on the tables, the spring and the wells were already contaminated.
