While Akira claimed to be there to apologize for Yayoi’s rudeness, the two of them had a plan. It was clear Sir Nicholas would be more willing to listen to a lord than his daughter. So, a little bluffing was in order.

So, while the two adults went to look at the mermaid in the storage room, Yayoi stayed behind. If they moved Yuu between enclosures, they must’ve had some transportation method she could use to steal her away. If she asked some of the servants, one was bound to crack.

Meanwhile, Akira needed to keep their host occupied.

“She’s a lovely creature. I once encountered a school of wild mermaids on a trip over seas. They can be quite captivating. I don’t blame my daughter for being taken in by her beauty. You know teens.”

---Yep. That felt like urgency alright. Yamikumo is urgent about rescuing people, so of course Trico’s going to bust out and fetch everyone from their hilarious demise.

It only took several strides around and down to the beach before Trico found everyone. A couple of steps into the salty water, and he carefully picks up Yuu, then Rokku before chucking them up and onto his back. Then there was Yamikumo, and Katsuki, and... Deku, so he sensed...

He picked them up like pups, too, and just plopped them all on his back before finally making his way back to the guild.

Yayoi entered the mansion, trying to avoid the staring lords and ladies. To them she was like the mermaid at the center of the room, a novelty. She was a rarity in the area. A family elevated to nobility not by birth but by deed. Her father had been granted the title of Lord for his work in keeping the land safe.

And she hated it. She was only there out of a sense of obligation. The host of the ball had invited her, and it would be rude to refuse. So she would suffer through the prying eyes and niggling gossip. At least, for now.

Cutting through the crowds, she made her way to the centerpiece. Perhaps she could avoid looks if she stood next to the real novelty.

The siren’s beauty was entrancing, that much was undeniable. The colors of her tail alone were enough to inspire a million snobby court artists. But what really caught Yayoi’s eye was the impenetrable aura of misery surrounding her.

Of course she would be sad, on display like a sculpture. And Yayoi felt a pang of sympathy shoot through her.

She placed a hand against the glass, ignoring the ‘do not touch’ sign. She just needed to be closer to the mermaid for a second...

Yayoi smiled softly as she tangled her fingers with Yuu’s. She’d been working on a plan for weeks now. But even if it didn’t work, she’d still savor Yuu’s touch.

“I wanted to spend some time with you... We’re going to take you back home tomorrow.”

Home, back to the ocean. She’d been wondering what that type of life would be. She’d find out, soon enough.

“And I’m going to come with you.”

Rescue Mission Start

The “Uraraka Yuu Super Emergency Rescue Squad” stood at the bus stop. They’d managed to get permission from the UA staff to go on a long weekend hiking trip to Mt. Daimugen, with the reasoning being that the rough terrain would be good for rescue training. Of course, rescue was certainly something they were there for, but not training.

Yayoi looked over the group. There was her, the eight other class 2-A girls, Rokku, Kicchan, and Yamikumo. Everyone had packed the basics: hiking shoes, toothbrush, and, of course, their hero outfits.

Once the bus arrived, they all piled in. The trip there was mostly quiet. Everyone was too busy going over their plan in their heads.

First, Kurosawa Tomie would use her echolocation quirk to find the entrance. Once there, Akimoto Rokku and Kamiki Miki were on door crew. They would unlock what they could, and she would melt the rest. From that point on, things were more uncertain. They didn’t know how much opposition they would face. But everyone was ready to fight so that Yuu could come home safely...

Having spent her life inside the walls of the archives, where candles, hearths, and ceremonial fires where always burning, Yayoi wasn’t used to such cold weather. She just couldn’t fall asleep, and she noticed that Yuu wasn’t asleep with the rest of their companions. So, she went to find her.

“Deep in thought, eh? I can certainly relate.”

Yayoi sat down next to the shaman, shivering a little at the touch of the snow, and looked up at the stars. They really were lovely tonight.

“They’re so much prettier in person. The star maps in the archives can’t compare...”
