Very random idea, but I think Jiang Wei would perfectly embody the "teacher's pet" archetype in a modern AU. Just imagine Jiang Wei as a new student who quickly wins Zhuge Liang's favor with his talents. Then he starts staying after classes to help Zhuge Liang and to learn more from him and, of course, to uncover details about his personal life (he would probably quickly find out how much of a workaholic his teacher is 😭). As their relationship develops, they would cross more and more boundaries, but I think the romantic feelings would just remain unrequited...
