From smalltown to smalltown

Hoisting my knapsack and tucking my marmalade sandwiches under my cap, I set off to the place of my next lodgings, the quaint village of Weinolsheim. Here, I was to be staying with the family of a newly made German friend.

While chatting with one of my colleagues at the school the previous day, the topic of accommodation had come up. He enquired as to where I was next to be living, and after my response, he chortled and bluntly explained that this was in the middle of nowhere; a one bus there, one bus back kind of place.

And so, with little to go on but the fact that I was going to be rather distant from the rest of civilisation, I trudged up to the main road in Oppenheim, said my last good-byes to the frogs at the fountain, and awaited my chariot (aka my friend's mum and her car).
