New Weird maps video, look at the long map fad I, kinda started.
Unidentified Maps in Super Paper Mario:
So, over in the SPM Lore and Theories server, there's been a recent wave of diving into the models and textures of the game to see what information gives it. I've also been doing it as part of a new project I'm working on... But that's not what I'm here to talk about now. In Flipside, Merlon keeps a globe in his house. Here's that globe itself:
An interesting detail about this globe is, Nolrem's globe is the same one, but flipped right-to-left. Also dingier.
Now, my geographical/cartographical skills are practically nonexistent, but even I am Pretty Sure That's Not How Globes Work. I could be wrong, though. Anyway, they do both use the same root texture. Which is extra helpful, since this texture's actually readable:
This might be a long shot, but is this a map anybody recognizes, real or fictional, and does anybody know what the exact implications of Nolrem's globe being flipped right-left might be if taken at face value? Oh, and there is a second map which also bears looking at here. Among the pictures in Marlee's Mansion is this very map-looking picture:
The interpretations I've heard on what it could be vary wildly, from a star chart to two flattened globes to even a map of the Mediterranean. But whatever it is, I'm hoping it's possible to get to the bottom of it. If anybody this reaches is (or has people they know who are) good at maps and whatnot, it'd be much appreciated if they took a look!
Humanity is poised to pass the 8 billion milestone mid-November, but population growth is actually slowing down.
This was really interesting.
Weird fucking map of Asia I decided to make today.
Red-land
Grey-part of the sea
How the Dutch think of languages around them. Pretty accurate actually.
