World Building: Weird Moon Universe
So this is a proper introductory post regarding the universe touched upon here.
Until October of 1993, Weird Moon Universe was just like “our” world - until the full moon period in the aforementioned month. Thereafter, strange things happen every time there is a full moon. Things like: people turning into their costumes, dream constructs coming to life, and visiting spirits becoming visible and tangible.

At the time, Jimmy Reed - along with his twin sister, Jillian - is sixteen years old. Their younger sister, Jessica, is fifteen years old. Up until the release of a certain brand of costume, the timeline was exactly identical to that of Harmony Duoverse, Body Swap Universe, and Spontaneous Solarpunk Universe. The costumes quickly become popular due to the vast variety, the high quality, and the incredibly low prices.
During the full moon period of 1993, Jillian and Jessica turn into their costumes. Jillian becomes a prairie girl, while Jessica becomes a fairy princess - during which Jillian and Jessica have no memories of each other, their family, or their surrounding. Jimmy is immune to this, as he dresses up as a hippie using some old clothing from his Uncle Mike.
With the Bakers across the street, Zina and Matt also turn into their costumes - a superhero and a dog, respectively. Zach Baker, by contrast, retains his own personality - as he prepared his own costume (dressing up as Matt Sanders) the prior summer, with his aforementioned friend from California.

At the same time, dream constructs also come to life - thereby forming a collective dreamland which converges with the physical realm during every full moon period (lasting roughly two days). This also means that, during the time, people who fall asleep can astrally project themselves into the physical realm. Those in dream mode can be spotted by a faint blue glow surrounding them.
Some people, including Zach Baker, have also gained the ability to voluntarily visit the collective dreamland between full moons via dream walking - even if none of his dream constructs come to life. About 20% of the global population - being largely amongst the younger generations - contribute to the collective dreamland. It’s common to encounter fuzzy monsters, animated fruit people, animated candy people, and animated balloons amongst the dream constructs.
As dream physics are at work, it’s also possible to essentially teleport from one location to another - which one must take caution with. It can also be useful for helping people to flee from abusive situations.

In addition, the full moon period is also when visiting spirits take on corporeal form. This means that hospices are expected to become quite full around each full moon period. Dying people also have the ability to temporarily leave their bodies, where they can enjoy their surroundings as someone in perfect health. Those who die around that time, which becomes the most common period for the terminally ill to pass on, might be seen as ascending a stairway to heaven by a lake. While anyone can climb a stairway to heaven, those who are not on their deathbed are barred from entering the realm on top.
During a new moon period, visiting spirits are also visible and audible - but they remain being intangible. Dying people may also temporarily leave their bodies, but their interaction with the physical realm is quite limited.

Schools, businesses, corporations, and other organizations learn to schedule things around each full moon period to keep things running as smoothly as possible.
Weird Moon Stuff
Earlier the moon was in the sky, but it was in the wrong place. Normally it is seen in the east, but no, today it was in the west. Which is THE WRONG SIDE OF THE SKY! So flash foreword 45 minutes and I come outside to find that the freaking moon is GONE!!! There is no trace of the moon and I can see stars outside. This is so bizarre and I don't appreciate it.
