Anybody else watch/remember that 2011 show Mr. Young, about the teenage teacher?
Cuz it's seared into my mind
Man, the 90s and 2000s were the Wild fuckin West of TV sci-fi and fantasy, where the most batshit insane idea you've ever heard got at least a season to fuck around. The X-Files, Sliders, Quantum Leap, Farscape, Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda/Earth Final Conflict, The Dresden Files adaptation, the Battlestar Galactica reboot franchise - not all of them were good, but holy shit did they exist and am I glad they did.
To be a bit more somber, I think that that's something we lost when we started to see the emergence (or, in the case of Star Trek, the re-emergence) of mega-franchises that dominate science fiction and fantasy. Sure, stuff like that is still out there, but it feels rare and rarer to find it.
That's it, really. I just had that thought and I figured it might be worth sharing. It'd be cool if you could recommend the weirdest stuff y'all are fans of since I'm always on the lookout for new, weird stuff.
Here’s my new pet project for this summer! My uncle asked me to digitize a ton of old stuff my aunt made during her time at the station. After going through a few of the things in the box and making them digital, this one stuck out to me hardcore. Can anyone validate me and assure me this is weird?
I think some people, especially the creators of this stuff, have an unhealthy obsession with commanding other beings.
Pokemon. Yugioh. Beyblade.
They all scream and shout at one another. Battle over fun, or trying to portray violence among friends as fun and safe when it isn't.
And like... why couldn't pokemon just been about digital creatures that weren't real? Why make a story where they're real and you're making your pets fight basically?
Yugioh, why not just make a story about enjoying cards. But no. They have to be LIVING cards, summoning and destroying life to recall it from the f'ng graveyard.
I'm just.. I just.. i get like, ok, art and freedom. But this is a trend with mainstream media and i'm sick of it. It's not actually fun. When is someone going to write it right? Probably never. And if they did then i doubt tv would care to show it anyway, and care even less to give proper credit.
welcome to weird tv.
Space Cadet - Remember the future
Nobody talks about the free view Internet provided channels. Right at the bottom of the channel list. Weirdest shit, always has 3am channel surfing vibes (as does pluto tv)
