I do wonder if some Gatwa's episodes were originally Sarah Jane episodes that were never finished and then slightly rewritten to put the Doctor in it as it would explain why the tone is so much lighter and all the weird fantasy stuff.

Like it was originally the Trickster doing it but it was changed him to Rani and whatnot. They should have just made the Trickster the actual villain of that season. All the annoying fantasy stuff would have made more sense.
