can we talk about how sponge spicules are literally microscopic art?? 🔬✨
ok I know this is gonna sound weird but have you ever seen microscope images of sponge spicules?
BECAUSE THEYRE ACTUALLY BEAUTIFUL.
like, genuinely. if you didn't know they were biological structures, you'd think they were abstract art or something a sculptor made.
why I'm obsessing over this:
I ordered a serum with sponge spicules (specifically the 99% top grade because I read that matters??) and then obviously had to research what I was putting on my face.
turns out, sponge spicules are these incredible microscopic needle structures that freshwater sponges make as their skeleton. each one is 200-320 microns long and 10-15 microns wide.
UNDER A MICROSCOPE THEY LOOK LIKE TINY GLASS SCULPTURES.
the science bit (I'll keep it short):
when these tiny needles touch your skin, they create micro-channels. your skin's like "oh we need to fix this" and starts repairing and renewing.
it's basically convincing your skin to do what it naturally does when it's younger, but on command. science is wild.
why 99% grade matters (learned this the hard way):
lower grades have more broken needles. broken needles = irritation. also the lower grades are gray-brown and the 99% is pure white.
so like... if your "premium" product looks gray, something's wrong 👀
