McDonald's drops Heinz
The world's finest ketchup, Heinz Tomato Ketchup, will be dropped from McDonald's restaurants in the coming few months according to a report from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Heinz, which was recently acquired by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway and Brazilian investment group 3G Capital, hired a former Burger King executive to lead the division. 3G Capital is, in addition, the parent of Burger King.
Heinz doesn't make ketchup in Pittsburgh anymore, but the product remains iconic to the region, which was one of two markets domestically that McDonald's still served up the condiment. Heinz Ketchup remains available in most international markets.
This seems like a strange move for the clown. Do you think it will hurt McDonald's business here in Western Pennsylvania?
