Is there a faster way to gain jewels other than purchasing them?

purchasing jewels is pretty much instant, so no, nothing faster. just keep progressing through the story quests, and make sure you log in every day! you’ll get jewels for the five-day rolling login bonus, and also jewels for the cumulative login bonus.

i believe later on they’ll hopefully introduce the daily jewel challenges, which are a reliable and easy source of jewels as well.
