wtw planet prompts - mercury - locations / travel

a moodboard for a fictionalized version of cartwright, labrador from my wip that takes place in the early-to-mid-2000s.

cartwright population: 550 nestled along the southern labrador coast, beautiful cartwright was first settled in 1775. it has only recently been connected by road with the rest of the country since 2002. the main industry is the crab fishery, though sometimes small amounts of tourists show up to hunt, fish, or explore the plentiful wilderness around the isolated community. (note: the southern coast of labrador irl does not typically see the aurora borealis, but in my world it does!)

WTW Ghost Gala Day 1 - Pumpkin Carving

Pumpkin Carving: You have to kill off a character. Who do you choose?

Some of my books/WIPs already include character deaths in them, so I will answer this question hypothetically as "who would I, as a reader, expect to die, or who would make an interesting death?"

ALiCE: Christopher is living out a slasher film, one with shaky ties to reality as it is. It makes perfect sense for him to be the not-so final girl and end up dead at the end of it all, if he isn't already.

Like Falling Stars: This is a cozy fantasy, so technically no one should be expected to die here, but if the genre were shifted slightly to a darker fantasy then one of the faeries would probably be expected to kick the bucket and Nicolas be blamed for it. The truth of whether he is guilty or not would be a significant plot point for Ann to pursue.

Stellar Eclipse: There are so many characters that have nearly died in this series! Readers may be relieved to know that Baltan was once slated to be dead in a distant epilogue but has since been spared because I simply didn't have the heart to kill him off and make the planned ending any more bittersweet than it already is. If I was going to kill someone off for real, it would probably be Keida or another member of the Kwoltan Gera extended family.

The Alliance Saga: There are a few characters whose fates I know readers are anguishing over while they wait for the release date. Some deaths are already known. I will say that the one I am most eager to kill off...one of the main cast...WILL survive the first novel, Shifting Roots. No guarantee beyond that.

Familiar Ties: Would be interesting to see what would happen if either Ripley or Freyr were killed, given that the other (and their parents) would unleash an absolute bloodbath in vengeance for their beloved.

I made a Camp NaNo word count spreadsheet!

It looks something like this

When you update the TOTAL WORD COUNT GOAL on the far right, it divides it by 31 to give you a daily goal. (Which kinda only works if you keep the same writing schedule every day, but you can manually type in the daily goals that works for you and the rest of the sheet should still work.)

You then write down the CUMULATIVE WORD COUNT you have each day. (As basic word processors only show total words rather than how much you wrote that particular day.)

It then subtracts the previous day’s cumulative word count from that to calculate how much you wrote that day.

Then it shows how much more (or less) you wrote than your goal, both daily and cumulative, to show you if you’re on track.

The +/- columns turn green if you reached your goal and red if you didn’t. (I realize this can be anxiety-inducing to some, you can always delete the conditional formatting to prevent the color change or just delete the columns.)

summary: It's the year 2080. The Seventh Collective controls all the eye can see and the ships can travel. But they don't do a very good job at controlling, and outlaws pop up everywhere you look. Seven people happen to be in the right place at the right time and band together to take the Collective down.

CARA FERNHERDT doesn’t know who she is. This has never been a problem, because no one else knows anything about her either. Not until now. A bodyguard-for-hire now contracted to a minor noble with a very major role in the country’s future, she’s thrust into the political ring of a country and threatened with the exposure of secrets she didn’t even know she had.

ALTERA VON SÖNNIGHEIT has been betrothed to the Prince of Kriga. An extremely important but perilous match, she’ll have to navigate her future court that would rather her dead than ruler, all while juggling her responsibilities to her people, herself, and whether or not her new bodyguard is a person worth aligning herself with.
