After nearly 4 weeks, I'm thrilled to be able to share this creation with you all. The world war 1 memorial bench, unveiled today by Raymochy Historical Society. The steel was hand forged to form the scrolls, flowers and to curve the seating slats. The whole thing was welded together before the steel was primed and painted by hand. The seating slats are designed to appear like ripples on water, symbolizing the passing of time, but a reminder that all who came before reverberate through the generations. There were 22 men from our community who never returned home from this conflict, and they are represented by 22 flowers- 7 poppies, 7 thistles and 8 shamrocks- which also represent the wider community having Irish, Scots and English heritage. There is a central plaque which contains a hand engraved tri-lingual depiction- "For all our family who died" written in Ulster-Scots, Gaeilge and English. A huge thank you to all who came to support us and especially to the relatives of the fallen.
