Clapp Lost & Found Horror Story #1: Toilet Sunglasses
This is a story of legend around here...
A few semesters back, a LTS staff member was working at the Clapp desk when her coworker approached her with some sunglasses that she had found in the 2nd floor bathroom. The sunglasses looked expensive and well-made so they assumed someone would be back for them and placed them in the lost & found box for safe-keeping.
A few weeks later, the Clapp staffer was going through the lost & found box for unclaimed items when she again came across the high quality sunglasses. Surprised that no one had claimed them, she pointed them out to a librarian, who, upon seeing the glasses, turned red in the face and started laughing.
"Wait a minute, let me see those...those are mine; they were flushed down the toilet a few weeks ago."
The story goes like this: the librarian had been wearing the sunglasses on her head while using the restroom. When she turned to flush, the glasses had fallen down the toilet. Though she immediately ran to grab a custodian to see if she could get her glasses back, they were not able to retrieve them. Time passed and the memory of the glasses was soon forgotten...until the toilet started to overflow. A plumber was called in to assess the problem. Well, s/he must have pulled the sunglasses out its temporary home in the sewer and left them in the bathroom. The rest, is, as the say, history.
Take-Away Lesson from this germy experience?
Beware of those bearing items that were discovered in the bathroom. The item may have just spent several weeks in a public toilet.
