Strike Walk #7
Career of Evil
Hastings Road to ???
Part one is here:
💬 0 🔁 1 ❤️ 1 · Strike Walk #7 · Career of Evil Hastings Road to ??? Part One Any lingering hope that no-one would die horribly in Caree
Part Two
The madman follows Robin and Matt
... Through the bustling Arcadia shopping centre ...
all the while thinking about how people are nicer when they're dead and empty, which I am sure is a perfectly normal reaction to having to go to the shops on a Saturday when it's rammed.
We can't retrace these steps though - not only et in Arcadia ego, but also Arcadia semper nobiscum est because there are still signs to it although it has been gone for more than a decade I think.
it has been replaced by 1-8 Broadway. You judge for yourself whether there's been an improvement.
Old Arcadia
New 1-8 Broadway
I mean, it just seems to have got more beige, but maybe that's just me.
Even if we could go through Arcadia, I don't know why we would, since we've already bustled past several bus-stops where we could catch the No. 83, which we now find is the goal. I suspect the length of the walk is so the pursuit is extended.
Having braved the shoppers, the madman now reports that Robin and Matt have
... arrived at a bus stop ...
(🤨)
and he observes their reflection in shop windows until he realises which bus they are aiming for.
The 83 bus route has changed, and the segment that Robin and Matt travelled is now on the 483 route. This is the old route which they would have picked up close to Ealing Broadway after leaving Arcadia -
and this is the current bus we're getting aboard.
The madman finds enough money in his pockets and as
... he climbed aboard behind them he heard the man mention Wembley Central ...
He buys a ticket and follows them upstairs. Upstairs is the only way to ride the bus. FACT
The madman's good clean stalking fun comes to an end when a group of men in Saracens rugby shirts board and this annoys him for reasons we do not yet understand. (👈 CLUE) So he never gets as far as Wembley Central, but leaves the bus and starts walking back the way he came, possibly along Hangar Lane like I did.
It confused me for a while that Matt and Robin were going to Wembley when the Saracens game that weekend was at the Vicarage Road ground in Watford. Now I think they were picking up overground rail services at Wembley - which go to Watford Junction along (what we now call) the Lioness Line.
It's a long sticky journey when all you have to look forward to at the end is 2 hours of chatting to Sarah Shadlock. 😁
That's it for this Strike Walk. I'll link to some others shortly. 👋

Wembley is Tube-Strike proof
Wembley is Tube-Strike proof
You’re probably in the middle of London’s biggest tube strike in history, right now. Transport for London have confirmed that ‘Strike action by the ASLEF RMT, Unite and TSSA unions will affect Tube services’, today and tomorrow. However, today from 6pm and all of tomorrow if you live in Wembley (Central or Park), you’re pretty much Tube-strike proof. Due to the London Overground being unaffected…
